The fishing pole harness is good if you almost have the jump. It keeps you in the air for a tiny bit longer. It's also good in that your coach can skate with you and you can enter the jump in your pattern as you are not confined to being under the harness line.

Lovepairs, did you work on it in regular or fishing-pole harness? I can see where regular harness would mess you up, but it should be much less so with the fishing-pole one.
I had just one lesson in the harness so I didn't get enough time to get over the weirdness of the situation, but for me, the purpose of the harness would be to just reduce my fear, and let me *feel* the jump instead of being scared to death and stiffening up. The time that I was in the harness, I made it very clear that I don't want any help in terms of getting up in the air, just some assistance in breaking the fall if I happen to go down.

My previous coach used the harness but would pull really hard so you were yanked by the harness; I didn't like that at all. And we only did them off-ice. My current coach rarely uses the harness, she believes that it teaches bad habits and co-dependence (which I can understand). I wouldn't mind a few sessions in it though, for that darned flip.
