I attended the Aspen Adult Week (my second year in a row) and I'm probably not in the best position to give a critique. Since it marked my first time back on the ice since breaking my wrist last May, I had very low expectations of myself. All I wanted was to regain some confidence and increase my comfort level with skating again, which I did. The atmosphere was extremely supportive and encouraging, the coaching was excellent and I actually felt like I improved as the week progressed.

But I didn't take full advantage of the ice time available or the off-ice sessions because I wasn't up to it physically (my back and hips were very unhappy with me and complained loudly as the week went on!). For instance, I skipped the on-ice workshops with Anne-Margrethe Frei, saving myself for the more basic skill classes.

There were more attendees this year -- around 40, IIRC -- and they divided us into three groups based on skill levels. Next year they are tentatively planning to offer two Adult Weeks back-to-back. I definitely want to go back, hopefully in much better shape next time.

Oh, I am so glad you went even though you were feeling sub-par!! And now you have something to look forward to for next year!! I was hoping you would go even with your wrist in a cast/splint/whatever, so was saddened to hear your hips and back were out of synch too.

So give yourself lots of credit for going and participating!!

Am also pleased to hear they had more skaters this year.....travel from other states can be costly....and it is great they are considering 2 weeks for next summer!

My doc still wants me to wear a splint on my wrist when I'm skating; otherwise I don't need to wear it at all. I'm almost totally pain-free and have regained most of my range of motion, thanks to a great physical therapist.

As for my hips and back, it's just that they were a little stiff and sore from being underused all summer
