Passed Swing Dance & Fiesta Tango!

I wasn't going to post regarding my test, as I don't post here at lot (I felt kind of embarrassed just to post a "test pass"), but someone.....convinced me to! Thank you to that person.

On Sunday I PASSED the Swing Dance and Fiesta Tango. I test dance "Solo", under "Standard Track" (even though I'm 55), and it was a *great* feeling to pass those tests and close out the Pre Bronze group of dances! I tested the Cha Cha back in mid-2005, and it's a long story as to why I did not get back to the remaining Pre Bronze dances until a few months ago.

At the risk of trying to make it sound like more of an accomplishment than it was, the same judge tested me as did for my Prelim dances, and the Cha Cha. I tested Prelim under my longtime coach, the Cha Cha under a dance coach, and the recent two again under my longtime coach. I got the dreaded "stiff" notation on the Cha Cha. On these, I didn't! Instead I got "good flow" and "very good Tango feeling". Progress!

Also, this particular judge skated as a child, and ice dance was her thing. She is quite picky. Pleasant, but strict. I knew I'd be scrutinized! I received two constructive comments (one about the strength of one of the back edges on the Swing Dance, and one about knee bend in the Tango), and that was IT. I didn't at all feel bad about those comments. They were right on, in terms of how I performed the test that day.

I have seen test sheets from this judge for three other skaters at this level of dance, and I felt lucky --- and happy ---- that my sheets were NOT full, like the others I had seen. While I want the constructive comments, as they help me improve, I understood that I must have done ok, as there is a wealth of opportunity for this judge to comment re edges, lobes, etc. on these dances. To see the lack of comment for this particular judge meant a great deal to me, and I really felt like I'd achieved something. Everyone needs a success from time to time in skating, and for now, this is mine.

They are behind me now, and it is on to Bronze ice dances!

You've done the right thing posting/starting an "I've passed!" thread for your dance test!!! (Or better!!! Have ME start a thread for you!!!)

I didn't start one b/c you'd mentioned that you didn't want the attention. But I just want to let you know that you deserve all the kudos and positive things from all that hard work you've done on this dance test!!! And don't let ANYONE take the gifts you've EARNED away from you!!!

Time to do another dance... START the CONGA LINE please!!!

What do you mean, it's not much of an accomplishment?! Dammit, woman, I'd kill to be allowed to test those dances (which are the level 4 dances here), but am not yet able, alas. Nearly, but not there yet.

Many, many congratulations! I am deeply envious!

Hey, thanks all. I really like all the conga line guys, and party favors! TD, that's *hardly* me, but loved the "Ice Dancer" pic, and I'll start pretending, immediately! LOL!

Joanna, I'm learning to like the attention!

Mrs. Redboots, it's sounds like you are close, very close. ENJOY when you do test them! Particularly the "Fiesta Tangle" end pattern and step forward!

Flying Camel, the Cha Cha was my favorite dance of this set, though I like each dance for a different reason. The Cha Cha just has a nice rhythm to it. That was my favorite end pattern.

I can't dance to save my life, but I do love to watch the Cha-Cha. Good luck!

Well, isn't there that option on this sort of forum?

Pause....

Yes, there is. Right now it only shows birthdays, but we could put our test dates in there as and when we know them.

I think anyone can add an event to the Calendar. I put up a test event for today - it appears at the bottom of the main page as well as on the Calendar page.

Feel free to add your test sessions and comps - if you need help, PM me and I'll give you a hand.

Wanna bet? I tried putting in a new event on the calendar and it told me that I didn't have permission for it.

I went to Calendar and then clicked on Single, All Day Event and Reoccuring events. No go on either case. I presume the middle choice also probably doesn't work either. Hmmm?

I can't post to the Calendar, either - looks as though it's Mods only!

Rats. I guess members can only post to their personal calendars.

I know what -- PM me if you would like your upcoming test or comp added to the Calendar and I'll add the event. Of course, this means I have to clear my PM Box...
