Hooray Hooray Hooray!!! for Manleywoman!!!!

It's totally awesome passing the senior MIF. Someday I hope to be their too!!! (which means I'll probably be the oldest guy to ever pass that test)

Great work!

Two questions, manleywoman--did you start skating as an adult or a child, and also, how many years from start to finish did it take for you to complete the MIF tests?

It's okay if you don't want to answer, and I know everyone's testing pace is different, but it would be interesting to know how long it took from start to finish. I don't know if I'll ever have the training time to be able to go all the way to Sr. MIF, but I'd like to aim for Intermediate/Novice (at least learning the Novice moves, if not passing them ).

Congrats again, and I hope the road to recovery for your hip is fast!

I skated as a kid from age 7 to 12. I was working on 2nd test and 2loop when I quit in 1984.

When I started again as an adult, I had taken a 12 year break and had never been on skates during that time, I had to relearn axel, 2sal and 2toe, and have since learned 2loop and 2flip. My spins were great as a kid, as were my edges and speed, so I didn't have to relearn much there. Because I had passed 1st figure as a kid and had passed the Adult Gold test (before adult MIF), I grandfathered into Intermediate MIF. I think I passed those around 1999? Then it took me three years and six tries (yes, six!) to pass my Novice MIF in 2002. Then I didn't test moves again until last summer, when I took my Junior MIF for the first time. I was more than ready to pass, but I had a horrible work week that week and only got 16 hours sleep in 4 days! So I was too exhausted to do it well. So I passed the Junior in January 2007 and then set my sights on passing Senior MIF this summer.
