My coach complimented me on my double loop. I did one, and heard "Wow Sarah, that was huge." It must have been nice if she took the time to comment, because she was surrounded by other students who are competing this weekend.

It took like ten minutes of messing up on em, but I landed a bunch of double flips in a row. I was starting to get really, really frustrated bc the timing was so off, but then I nailed one right after the other.

Double toes felt really nice and big.

Also-skated
The fact that it took like ten minutes for the double flip to work.

Change-edge camels. Oy. On the forward, I tend to get stuck on the flat. On the back, I hit the inside edge then fly too far forward.

Had a few nasty falls. I had one that like crushed my left wrist, and another that sent shock waves up my spine and knocked the wind out of me. Both on double flips. It was the kind of fall where you have the full rotation on a jump, but just fall backwards. Hard.
Wow, how exciting! Now you can come rink-hopping on weekends! If you can afford the gas, that is.

Take care on those flips, though. Yikes.

Except I still need my license lol. I feel so spoiled for getting a car ewhen I don't have my lisence, but its only bc my dad is moving back to new york. He's the designated car-buyer I the family, so we needed to takwe car of it this week.

Icant wait to go rink hopping. I made sure to get a car with good feul efficiency--23 city and 31 highway I think? Its not as good as a hybrid, but there is no way we could afford one of those

Gold Medal:
Had my first lesson with regular coach since I missed the previous two weeks, and told her I wanted to start figures. I had been doing the FO 8's, and found that I wasn't rotating in the right place, got it fixed and really enjoyed working to strengthen the L side. Then she sprang the BO on me, and I found that I could do the push pretty well. Just need to do it enough to build some confidence - but it's the same as roller . FO and FI threes were surprisingly good. I may have to start working on spirals soon. I've been leaving them until I feel hopeful on the threes. It's going to take me at least 6 months on the spirals, but they are nowhere near as frustrating as threes for me. Just a matter of stretching and building strength.

Also Skated:
Didn't go near spins, alas.

Priceless! How awesome. I wish I could juggle. I did learn to skateboard this last winter (that's my primary form of transportation now actually), but I can't do that while skating.

Aww Rusty, the ice will be lonely without you. I'm sure you'll make it back when the time is right though. Just don't get too down about not accomplishing "things" - all that matters is that you stay motivated and have fun. I just started skating seriously again very recently, and I'm spending almost all my time working on simple stuff I used to hate working on. But the difference is now I choose to enjoy the learning process, rather than the end goal, so it's not frustrating and I'm generally happier while skating.

Make sure you let us know when you start skating again!

Gold Medal
  • Pretty much everything...
  • Got my new boots pretty well broken in at this point
  • Have a wonderful coach.
  • Skating regularly again!

Also Skated
  • Can't spin very well at all on the new blades yet.
  • Still a lot of crap to work out to get beyond the point I was at before neglecting skating.

Also-skated: Well, I was supposed to be taking the Quickstep at tomorrow's test session as well, but my dance coach decided to scratch it last minute this morning. I'm actually OK with that because I'd only been working on it for three weeks and it just wasn't ready. My partner and I were having a heck of a time getting through the three patterns (mainly tracking/separation issues where one of us pulls away), so I think we're just going to shoot for taking it in July...or August. Both should have Gold panel judges available.
Not to completely resurrect this thread or anything, but as promised, here's the video of my Viennese Waltz, which failed: http://s282.photobucket.com/albums/k...eWaltzTest.flv

Hmm. . .I don't know much about dance, but I thought it looked nice! What did the judges find wrong with it?

In a nutshell, the pattern was shallow, which I guess it was, esp. my solo. Also, too much partner separation, but I don't get to skate with him until about 2 weeks before the test and then it's usually just 3-4 half hour lessons. Oh well.
