I'm basing this on the up-coming season (don't tell my husband how much $$ I'm spending-he thinks I'm buying clothes ):
Location:
Lower Delaware

Cost of general sesssion:
$2.50 before 4 p.m.; $5 after 4

Cost of private ice/freestyle session:
$7.50/session

Cost of Private Lessons:
$22 for 30 minutes

Avg amount of hours you skate per week:
4.5-6.5 hours

Avg amount you spend per week (lessons and ice time only-does not count the endless supply of McDonalds/snackbar food or bootcovers/skatewear, exercise classes, etc):
$55 (includes Learn-to-skate lessons averaged in)

Price of having done it all:
Worth-it!

Just add 2/3's the above for brat daughter......actually, just double it because you have to add her, then hubby's lessons, then of course, musn't forget hockey boy...yeah, I don't need to add that 2nd bathroom.....after all, brat daughter will be leaving for college in a few years....(I hope )

Hmmm...this might be an eye opener (Prices in American)

Okay - every 8 weeks I spend 99 bucks for 45 minute group lessons once a week. The public session is free after.

I pay $3.25 for 2 hours every Tuesday, and $6.50 on Thursday night.

50 cents for a locker 3 days a week.

Privates - $35 for 30 minutes once a week. Sometimes I'll pick up an extra lesson if I can, but this is only like once a month or when I have extra money, which is rare.

Total Average Expense: about 60 bucks a week, or 240 a month.

I'd love to pick up an extra private lesson once a week but I also want to start taking dance classes again, or maybe join a gym. When my boyfriend and I get another car I'll make my decision then. Whats an extra 35 bucks a week anyway

Cost of sesssions:
"Singles" rink: Two 45 min. sessions @$7.25/session (prepaid) = ~$15 and 1.5 hr public session = $5; total is $20
"Pairs" rink: Two 45 min. sessions @$9.50/session (walk-on) = $19 and 1.5 hr public session = $5; total is $24

Other rink: Two sessions @$8/session (prepaid) = $16 (for roughly 2 hours, I never know how long these sessions actually go!)

Cost of Private Lessons:
Singles: $66/hr @ 30 min = $33 (sometimes I do 45 min = $49)
Pairs: $81/hr @ 20min/2 = $14 (I pay one week; partner pays other week)

Avg. time skated per week:
8 hours

Avg. amount spent per week:
$47-63 for lessons, $60 for ice = $107-$123/week.

Oh, so that's where my money goes.
And let's not even talk about competition costs and, er, medical costs--physical and psychological.
(But I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world ...)

Registration: Not really sure. For singles, I always just buy pick-up ice, because I register with the club through synchro. My schedule is too sporadic to register for a regular session in either summer or fall.

Drop-in Fee:
Fall/Winter - $8 for any block of time between noon and 3:30pm. About $15/hr to drop in on an evening session.
Summer - $10-$15/hour

Coaching: $12.00 for 15 min lesson

I usually skate 2 times a week in fall/winter (not including synchro twice a week), and 2 or more times per week in the summer, depending on my work schedule and my finances!

Ice and coaching prices can vary quite a bit in Calgary, but what I pay is pretty average.

I am in BC ($CDN)

Registration with Home Club - $450.00 for 6.5 hours a week from the end of September till beginning of April.

Second club I belong to because they have a large adult contingent - $125 for each of fall session, winter session and spring session for two hours a week plus another $75 for five week summerskate.

Lessons - 8.00/15 min 2-3 lessons per week with primary coach
11.00 for 20 minutes, once a week with dance coach

Buy-on to additional ice at either club $7.50 off time and $12.00 primetime

Then there are plane fares, hotels, costumes and entrance fees for competitions - I really don't want to know how much those add up to.

Definately worth every penny

Ice costs: $8/freestyle session x 6 per week (40 minutes each) in summer; $8 for 2 freestyle sessions early morning rest of year.

Summer costs: $48/week
Winter costs: $24/week if I skate only early morning, otherwise $32-$40/week

Coach costs:
Coach #1: $40/half hour x 3 times per week
Coach #2: $34/half hour x once per week

Luckily I usually can make a pair of boots last 2-3 years.

Plus competition costs and costume costs

Total: More than I care to admit...

General Sessions:
I don't do the public sessions, as most times we can't do freestyle on them. But one rink offers a "Physical Fitness/ Freestyle" during the school year from 9:30-11:30 am twice a week for $7.00.

Freestyle/ private ice:
Primary rink is $10.00 pre paid with a walk on fee of $13.00
Secondary rink is $5.50/6.00 session pre paid or $7.00 walk on. Secondary rink is closer to home, but does not have a regulation surface.

Cost of private lessons:
Primary coach is $18.00 for 20 minutes with a pre paid punch card, $20.00 without, which brings her cost to $60.00/ hour roughly.
Secondary coach is $20.00 for 30 minutes.

Hours of skating per week:
4.5-6 hours a week- 1.5 hours 3-4 days a week

Average amount spent per week:
Thank God for pre paid punch cards.

I don't understand the math from some of you. You say a session is $6-$9, that you skate 3-5 hours a week, and therefore spend somewhere around $12 a week. Huh?

Could work out if the cost is per session, rather than per hour...

Cost of general sesssion:
Depends... one rink you can get a 6 month family membership for 4 people, unlimited public sessions, for $150. Other than that, they tend to be $6-$7 for a session at most rinks

Cost of private ice/freestyle session:
Well, again, different for different rinks.
Everett: $8 normally, $7.50 w/ punch card (for 1 hr)
Kingsgate: $7.00 (or something) normal, $6.25 w/ punch (for 1 hr)
Lynnwood: $10/hr
OVA: $10 for 45 minutes, though they have different programs you can do (unlimited skating for a month for I dont' know, a couple hundred? it's all freestyles)

Cost of Private Lessons:
$25 for 1/2 hr; half that for when I'm doing dance (as my partner and I split the cost )

Avg amount of hours you skate per week:
eek. depends... a ton. lately, around 10-15, probably more. in general... like, 5-6? not sure

Avg amount you spend per week:
NO idea. for lessons... gosh. around... $50 ish? NO idea for the freestyles. hmm... shoudl probably figure that out one of these weeks. though i daresay it'll depress me

All in all, my parents give me $500 every month for ALL of my costs... over a month, most times my lessons are around $300 (though that was before the dance cost was split in half, so it might be less...) and then I usually have some left over (or I spend it on... *gasp*... things other than skating! or... dresses, etc., which aren't completely necessary, but that I like to get anyways )

Cost of private ice/freestyle session:
as low as $7.50 for bulk sessions to $15 walk-ons

Cost of Private Lessons:

Avg amount of hours you skate per week:
4-6 hours

Avg amount you spend per week:
I'm afraid to total it

Cost of a public session: $6.
Length of a public session: 2-5 hours.
Currently only skating 1 or 2 times per week, mostly because of boot issues, but also financial reasons. :/
