what is this called?
Is there a name for a jump that takes off like a waltz jump, rotates half way like a waltz jump, but lands on a LBI edge rather than RBO (that is to say, lands on the same foot you jumped off) A couple little girls were doing this last night after learning a half loop, and calling it a "half waltz." I was wondering if it's an actual element with a name.

Yes, that is a half waltz. I had an "old school" coach some years ago who taught it to me but I don't think I've seen others do it except possibly in combination with straight-line footwork.

It actually looks pretty cool.

Over here we call the waltz jump a three jump, and as this jump you're describing is more like a three turn than you'd imagine a waltz jump to be, I've heard this jump called a jumped three (turn). But I think it's one of those things which gets thrown into step sequences or transitions.

A "Bell Jump" is a full revolution, not a half revolution. She described a waltz jump that lands on the same foot. There's a half-revolution in the air and a change of edge and foot direction, like a three-turn.
It's sometimes called a "three jump" or a "jumped 3" depending on where you're from.

A walley takes off from a back inside edge and lands on the same foot's back outside edge after completing a full revolution. (RBI for CCW skaters)
It's a three jump or a jumped three. http://www.skatejournal.com/jump.html

It can also be considered a jumped 3-turn.

At our rink we call it a 1/2 waltz, though they certainly are most like a jumped 3 turn. Whatever, I think they look cool. I've been experimenting with doing a flip off the BI edge landing, with some success. Never could get the salchow coach wanted from it though.

3 jump around here.
They're on Gold Skills, described as "LFO 3 Jump, RFO 3 Jump", done right after each other and it's a pretty looking connecting move. |

I think I have done one of those, I was showing a hockey player how to cheat at his three turn and I did a three turn but instead of turning on the ice I turned in the air half a rotation, is that it?

A half loop takes off from a back outside edge. The original poster said it was a forward edge takeoff.
In addition, she said the jump took off forward and landed on the same foot, on the back inside edge. A half-revolution jump with a forward entry edge that lands on the opposite edge of the takeoff foot is called a "Jumped Three" or a "Three Jump" depending on where you live.

It's a 3 jump or jumped 3 turn.
Try doing a salchow right after it. It looks great. Kay |
