Would someone with a current USFSA rulebook be kind enough to quote me rules SSR 15.05 and 15.06? I have foolishly allowed my rulebook to get a year out of date, and I want to check these rules. Thanks!

SSR 15.05
Skaters are allowed to finish a free skating, original dance, and a free dance program within ten seconds puls or minus of the required time. IN these events, a whistle shall be blown when ten seconds more than the allotted time have elapsed and the judges shall cease judging the performance.
A. If the skater(s) fails to finish a free skating program within the allowed rangge of time, there should be a 0.1 deduction in both marks for up to every ten seconds lacking or in excess of the prescribed range.
B> Should the program be thirty or more seconds shorto of the prescribed range, no marks will be awarded.

SSR 15.06
Timing shall start from the moment the skater or either partner of a pair or dance couple begins to move or skate until arriving at a complete stop at the end of the program.

The stuff in bold is highlited in the book...I think that means it's new. Hope this helps.

Do these rules apply to competitions AND tests?

Thanks, spicyicey! I'm pleased to read 15.06. I'd heard that there was a rule change and they now start timing from when the [i]music[i/] starts, rather than the skater's movement. I really need the extra second or two at the beginning of the program.

Jocelyn, according to TR 18.01: "The Skating Standards Regulations governing the manner of performance and the marking of figure skating and ice dancing shall apply to all figure, free skating, pair and dance tests." So it looks like the answer is yes.

Grr. I once timed a Juvenile Freeskate test at 1:30 and I was appalled that the judges didn't seem to notice a thing. It passed. >:-P

(side note: why do the stick-your-tongue-out faces look happy? I want a disdainful tongue! ":-P" )

Have they just changed that last bit? Does that mean you can't end a programme while still moving? I know I've seen this done before - I think I've seen someone end a programme during a spiral, and then they just put their leg down after the music stopped and went to bow, without actually stopping skating. Anissina & Peizerat ended their 2000 FD while still moving too (in a lift). Have they changed the rules so you have to come to a dead stop now?

Hey, no problem skaternum!

icenut- I'm not sure if you can still end in a moving position- lots of skaters used to do lunges, etc. to finish the program. This rule kind of makes sense though because I've seen people get very behind in their program and do entire spins after the music ends. That could have put them over time, but I don't think there was anything in the rulebook about penalizing it before this year.

It's still kind of confusing though, because those endings used to be pretty popular. It would probably be best if they revise this rule next year! :)

Pretty close, jazzpants. The "tounge2" one is still too smile-y. Probably not disdainful enough for Jocelyn. Hee hee. I like the "xzflipoff!!" I'll be using that every once in a while.
