In the winter I skate 2 a week (weekends) for bout 2hours (each time).. umm rite now I am doing spring skate.. which is 4 times a week (sometimes 5).. and then summer skate would be 4 times a week. :P

inuk_shuk
04-20-2003, 07:35 PM
i suck...15..working on doubles, probably closest to 2loop. i also only skate twice a week in the winter season. and didn't pass any tests this past season *tear*

fort_henry_roxs
04-20-2003, 07:38 PM
Hey inuk_shuk.. you don't suck! By the sounds of it you sound pretty good! Specialy if you only skate 2 times a week.. and thats not even subtracting the holidays.. way to go! Keep it Up!:) (*your the best* pumps fist in the air)

inuk_shuk
04-20-2003, 07:42 PM
thanx fort henry rox!! lol *fist in air!*
96.23? .. i would take up another day but $$ is an issue as well..i have a sister who skates too so we've gotta split the $$ and such...
i also row spring and summer, so that doesn't leave much time lol. at least i'm doing something to keep in shape :)

96.23??

04-20-2003, 08:47 PM
It's nice to see some younger folks on the site :D .

I'm older than dirt (38), and have been back to skating for 1 year (did 9 as a kid). I have an axel, and am working on the double toe and sal (got hurt back in January, so just getting back now). I have a flying camel and a flying sit, as well as a combo spin. No layback, though, I'm terrible at them and always was!

I skate at Adult Gold level (kind of like Juvenile, but older, creakier, and with longer music ) and just did my first Adult Nationals.

I'm 24 and at the Pre-Preliminary level (I've only been back 1 yr after a 6 yr hiatus - before that, I was landing an axel, and close on 2toe and 2loop).

96.23??
04-20-2003, 09:00 PM

inuk_shuk
04-20-2003, 09:02 PM

04-20-2003, 09:42 PM
I have been skating for 8 or 9 years (including CanSkate). I started when I was 11 or 12. All my doubles have come quickly this year though. I didn't have any clean until 6 months ago and now I have all of them except toe and axel (and they are all pretty consistent). My only problem is that I have to slow down going into 2flip and 2lutz (not as much as on the flip though). I can do all of the basic spins (can't do outside camels, etc.) although camel change camel is pushing my luck.

BringontheRain
04-21-2003, 07:43 AM
I started 2axel in November, landed a few cheated ones in Dec, got hurt in Dec, took a month off, waited another month when I got back on the ice to do 2axel and they're slowly getting close again ... I have super consistant doubles although I have foot problems so I rarely do flip or lutz but they're my 2 best doubles so it isn't a biggie ... 2axel just takes awhile to get the feeling of

I've been skating for 7 years

I'm 18, and I skate at the Jr. Silver B level. I have 2 sal, 2 loop and 2 flip. I'm thinking of hopefully testing Sr. Silver Elements soon, that's if I can start landing 2/2 combos consistantly.

I'm OLD - like Adult Level 3, old enough to have a grown-up daughter of my own - and am primarily a dancer, although I do a little free skating. My best jump is a very cheated salchow, but I tend to stick to 3-jumps and bunny hops! In ice dance, I'm at the equivalent of the US pre-Bronze level.

I'm 49 and started skating when I was 47. Level? What's a level? All I try to do is stay vertical. ;)

I've passed ISI Alpha and Beta and am close to testing Gamma and Delta.

Jumps? Not on these old knees. Okay, a wimpy waltz jump maybe.

96.23??
04-21-2003, 04:20 PM

I've been skating for 13 years(4 years in Canskate and 9 years in the test program). I've done singles and synchro(both festival and competitive). Skating hasn't come easily to me, so it's taken a long time for me to progress to where I am now.

No I can't. I have accepted defeat with those darn jumps. And even when I try to do them, they end up being toe axels anyways.

The only advice I can offer is making sure that you take off before your right leg (or left leg if you jump CW) swings through getting into your backspin postion in the air.

Beks - alpha, beta, etc are the very beginning learn-to-skate levels that come before you get as far as pre-Preliminary.

96.23??

ohhh the program we use b4 all that is called canskate levels like one two three so on

04-22-2003, 08:06 PM
Well, they're not REALLY consistent....it depends on the day and how crowded the session is lol. I have trouble with popping but when I do rotate, I almost always land them.

Sk8er1964.........if you are old as dirt where does that put garyc254 and me (I'm 49 also)? LOL!!!! :D I know, older than dirt!!!! I've been skating......let me see, pond as a kid, 1 session of LTS at 16, back on the ice at 25 to finish LTS (2 years), then back again at 45............wow, 6 years and a few months now.

I'm working on staying out of a body cast at the moment.

Lump me in with the dirt crowd: a big 4-0 and counting. I share the goals of trying to stay vertical and out of a body cast.

Well, lets see, I'm new here (under this name anyways...) but I'm an 18 yr old Novice who's been skating since I was 12. I've had all my doubles for awhile, but the axel is very inconsistent. Working on triples, but mainly focusing on college now and getting into coaching. Went to JN's a few years back as an intermediate. Just want to test out now. I will say, I have a ton of respect for any adult skater. I gotta give you guys props for going out there and giving it the old fashioned 'college try'. You guys rock. As far as my skating, my body gave out unfortunately. Oh well!! On to coaching!!!

Nice to finally be back!!!

I'm close to being in the "old as dirt" group as well. I'll hopefully be debuting at next year's Sectionals and Nationals (in Lake Placid...YAAAY!!!) as a Bronze II lady!!! (Yeap! Going to another age group next year. WAAAAH!!! But better than trying to keep up with "dem young'ums" in Group I!!! 8O )

But now I have to work on my Bronze Moves tests, which still SUCKS, but they're sucking less and less!!! :P (Forward power 3's are  , but even THAT is sucking less and less now. It's gone from "LOL!!! Are you kidding me!??!?!" to "Can do them to a certain extend!!!") :D

I'm 19, have been skating for 2 years, once a week (at a rink an hour's drive away, and since it closed a month ago my new rink is at least an hour and a half away). Have landed loop and flip but not consistent yet, salchow and toe loop are practically consistent now. Also do dance, and am working on scratch spins in both directions :) My friend reckons I'm "very graceful" :D

To put a different perspective on the age thing - I think I get the gold at 56.

My coach keeps telling me I'm really a Silver skater (I do have nice F and B cross strokes and a few other goodies), but I still can't pass either pre-Pre moves or pre-Bronze. The waltz-8 in one case, and the FI threes in the other are my stumbling blocks. I really need to nail that one foot spin with proper wind up, but I don't think I'll be jumping if the knees and hips have anything to say about it.

I'm 29 and I've been skating off and on for a few years. Never competed as a kid. I just started competing this year and I've got all my single jumps except the axel (Grrr.) I'm competing in ISI FS3 level. Our rink doesn't have a USFSA club, so I haven't competed in USFSA yet. I imagine I'm probably at a USFSA Adult Bronze or Silver level. My spins are a little inconsistent (ie. camel & back spin). When my spins are good, they're nice, when they're bad, they're terrible. Ech.

I'm 22 and have been skating since I was 6. I went through Canskate and Canfigure, then did mainly synchro starting when I was 11. I skated synchro up to Senior Competitive, and now I skate on an Adult Festival team. I just started taking my dances, something I've been wanting to do for a while. I'm hoping to get into synchro judging, or even skate Senior again in a few years. I'm working on my Junior Bronze dances right now. As far as singles elements....I can do a decent one-foot spin, never could manage a backspin!! When I was younger I could manage a waltz jump, toe loop, loop, salchow, half-flip, and split jump. I can still do the waltz, but my toe loop is really more of a toe-waltz. Loop, no way! and my salchow comes and goes.

Well. I was a child skater, didn't go far..to much money even in the late 70's.I am 40 ( well at least for about 3 more weeks).I have passed the Junior Bronze Free, Junior Bronze Dances, Preliminary Skills, Adult Artistic and I passed the Introductory...Bronze and Silver Interpretive test in a 4 week span this 2003 season. I am working on the European to complete my Senior Bronze Dances..yes I am Canadian!!

I started on skates at age 36, figured ..why sit in the stands and watch my daugher have all the fun.I got the desire to get new skates and it went from there.
I have been laughed at, snubbed and alot of other rude stuff while on sessions with the younger skaters, but I went on and did my thing.

Adult skater respect each other and we have a blast in the dressing rooms at competitions.the younger skaters could learn alot from adult skaters in regards to respecting their fellow skaters.

Well enough about me..Tell me about you.

I agree with all of you who say reading these make you feel like you have no talent at all!! :( I started working on double axel, and I have all of my other doubles consistant.. except for that stupid d. flip! I could probably be better if I let my coach send me out to a different city to train.. but I don't want to leave. See my town is TINY like poulation of 6,000.. and we only have on rink, so I end up skating like 3 or 4 hours a week! I don't know how to use any of this.. so could somebody show me??

I love to perform on the ice and the physical challenge it gives me.I really enjoy being a PA for Can Skate and enjoy arranging fun raisers to help skaters fund for travel costs. I volunteer as much as I can in all aspects of the Figure Skating sport because I love it!!

i've noticed a lot of people saying that they have 2/3 of senior bronze dances - doesn't everyone HATE teh european! i can do the keats foxtrot no problem, but ugh, those darn 3 turns. ;-(

Ellyn
06-27-2003, 10:47 AM
Nope. In the USFSA structure I have passed 2 out of 3 bronze dances (and no pre-silvers, obviously), so the ones I'm "working on" (although I have been focusing on freestyle the last few years instead) are Ten-Fox, Fourteenstep, Foxtrot, and European.

Of those four dances, my favorite is the European. I really don't like any of the other three very much, which is one reason I'm not focusing on dance lately.

I think it's a matter of some people preferring mohawks and some preferring three turns.

Edited to add that I'm a year and 3 days older than GoldieMedal. :-)
