While I haven't skated at all this weekend (so not much to be proud of there) just couldn't help but share that my daughter just passed her pre-juv moves today. Was more than a little nervous (ok a lot - had to go to sit in the bathroom for part of it) as she was absolutely the littlest one out there taking pre-juv moves today - out of 10 moves - she just turned 8. But she held herself together and passed.:D

Congratulations! Although I feel like I can better handle the nerves watching daughter test or compete, it's still tough, and I find myself in the bathroom alot too

Congratulations! And don't worry about hiding in the bathroom- my mom can't even be in the building! Tests are my dad's responsibility. I think the last time my mom came to a test voluntarily I was about 15.

Congratulations to your daughter!!!!:D :D

I know how you feel - from a hockey mom's perspective. My son's team played the first place team today (who's parents are totally obnoxious and who's coach is a jerk - always yelling at his kids and throwing sticks - they're only 7 and 8 years old for Pete's sake). That was the most agonizing hour I've had lately - because we were ahead until the last period (final score 1-2). Hands sweating, voice horse from yelling encouragement.

I think if he was doing MIF I'd completely fall apart! So much easier to do it yourself!

WELL DONE TO KJD Jr. :D :D :D

And.... no more hiding in the bathroom. ;)

Be there for her (I know you were), be supportive (I know you are), and take the results for what they are. It's all a learning experience for them. Even in total failure there is something to learn and build on.

Thanks so much everyone for the congrats. Gary, I was mostly hiding in the bathroom because I didn't want her to see how nervous I was (her coach - and mine too- has told me if you're going to be nervous, leave the building. I did the next best thing) - thus making her nervous. We have a very tough area for moves. Last month our club passed only 1 of 5 pre-juv moves tests and last week at the other club across town (but same judges as ours) they passed none! And apparently none of the other moves tests at any level. I understand it was a bit of a blood bath so we were all very nervous.

She was in the first of 3 warmup groups for pre-juv moves and the last to skate in that group. None of the others in the group passed so I was definitely sweating by the time daughter (HHD) took the ice. She was the youngest by a good year and a half or more of all the pre-juvies and our area is all about power, power and more power. I saw some very marginal pre-juvies pass in the next two groups but they were all flying! No control at all on the 3 turns but flying none the less.

She's very happy today. So once again, thanks for all the congrats.

Congratulations. I can't be near my daughter when she tests either. I stay away, watching from a distance. Her coach takes care of her at test sessions much better than I could.

Wow...no wonder you were terribly nervous with those passing percentages in your area 8O All the more reason to be excited about daughter passing!

I actually sat in the stands and watched my daughter's last test without passing out. Pretty good huh? I have learned that when her coach gives me "the look" I stay out of the way to prevent passing on my nervousness.

I have a friend who finds testing extremely difficult - she has been known to "choke", and to fail a test she should have passed easily. She is an ice dancer, and, as well as testing herself, has "propped" various men through their tests, and also escorted a young relative to her various tests. I asked her once which was worse, and she said, "They're all hell, but they're three different kinds of hell!"

So KJD, congratulations not only to your daughter for having passed her test, but also to you, for having survived the experience!
