I had my first skating comp on Sunday, and all your well wishes worked, because I came in first in my division. Yippee! When I saw my name on the wall, I teared up. I got a medal, which my husband made me wear to dinner.

I was pretty nervous going into it, but having my husband there really helped. Of course, he was as nervous as I was, but he hid it well.

The comp was running about 1.5 hours behind schedule when we arrived, so we got to watch some of the more advanced skaters do their programs. Unfortunately, this is a semi-enclosed rink, so it was pretty cold outside, and I came back in so that I didn't get too cold. I had planned to stay after my event and watch more, but we were there so long due to the delay that we left after my program.

About 45 minutes before my event I changed into my costume. I worked with my coach for a few minutes, going through my program and then stretching. About 15 minutes before I put my skates on. Then, the warm up! I almost did a SashaCohen(tm), coming close to smashing into a fellow competitor in the warm up. The warm up went by so fast! But I managed to get my legs working, and went through each of my elements twice.

I was the last in my group to skate. I did everything well, except for one move where I was a bit rough because I rushed it a bit. My husband taped the whole thing, so I actually got to see myself after I skated. This was great - I did not look fat, and my butt did not look big. I did not fall, and everyone clapped. Some people even shouted for me. It was cool. My skating actually went by very fast - I did not have time to be nervous.

After the comp, we went out to dinner. We spent the rest of the night sitting on the couch like two big lumps, watching taped figure skating on tv. We couldn't move - we were both exhausted! It's amazing how tired the comp made me - I probably skated a total of four minutes, yet I felt like I'd run a 10km.

Woo-HOO!!!! Great job!

I can just imagine you guys sitting there watching the tape at the end of the evening. Hubby and I have spent plenty of time watching and re-watching a few practices and lessons he’s taped, which given my level would be like watching paint dry to most people, but a winning competition performance has got to be riveting!
