Coach and I were working on spreadeagles today and solved the problem of my outside "butteagle" by making sure I kept the leading shoulder pressed back, with the leading arm extended directly to the side and the lagging arm positioned in a straight line with my sternum. However, I could not do an inside spreadeagle to save my life. Is there a trick to keeping the shoulders and arms in check to add stability to the inside eagle? I hope to work my way up to changing edges, i.e. outside to inside eagle.

I am surprised that you can do an outside but not inside. I always thought insides were easier. You might try by doing one either very straight or on a tighter curve, which ever is more comfortable for you. You might also try besti squats. I find those help to straighten my curvy inside eagle.

A long time ago, my old coach had to finagle me into learning this.
Imagine a upside down ice cream cone in front of you. As you go into the spread eagle position, LEAN towards the inside and plaster yourself against the cone!
