View Full Version : If you could skate to anything, what would it be?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but sometimes people's ideas change lol. :)

For me, I'd kill to skate to Nostalgia by Yanni. It's the first song by Yanni my dad ever had me listen to (this led to going to four Yanni shows over the last few years with him AND finding out that one of the ladies that used to tour with him teaches at my uni, and meeting her!) and I've been in love with it for years. It's my ideal competition song, and I've even cut it down and have it ready for a long program! I'm just waiting for the opportune moment...

I'd also like to do an exhibition to something by Seether, just to see if it was possible, haha. I like being a little hardcore sometimes. (I'm known for wearing black every day, usually a black tank or shirt of some kind... my friends caught on quickly lol)

What about you all?

ATM I could go with a show programme to Masochism Tango tbh, I've got ideas for that... Although the Headless Waltz could also be fun for a show programme... (say paper mache head? ) No conventional, lyricless really-wanna-skate-to musics atm though. When I just started skating I wanted to do something to some heavy metal but truth is that's hard music to skate to. And, there was Apocalyptica past season at competitions in men's, so certainly metal isn't taboo anymore (although heavy metal prolly still is, lol) so the fun is out of that anyway, but if I did - again, it'd have to be a show programme cuz of lyrics - I'd probably go with something by Manowar. There's also Rev:22.20 by Puscifier but y'know, angrying Christian judges is probably not the best way to say, not place last...)

Non-lyrics, I'm still a big fan of the matrix soundtrack and some of apocalyptica's work. But I don't have the skills required to skate to that and look good.

Masochism Tango! Me too! (See here (http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?p=420082&highlight=tango#post420082)) I already have the whip (left over from my foxhunting days). I was thinking of a costume consisting of, my black leather fur lined jacket, a black cloche with veil, and a red satin dress cut so that you can see the garters and classic black stockings. Of course you could only do that at an adult venue like nationals. On a 60 year old woman, it could only go in the 'Entertainment' event as comedy.

Star Wars General Grevous theme. Very fast paced tempo that I'll NEVER be able to do at my advanced age.

I've thought about this. =-) I'm not sure because I'm pretty positive my likes are "bigger" than what I could skate to. Something from the Beatles, like "Yesterday", or some other soft rock that's been redone in music only. I do know that it would need to be something I like enough to have a program for.

String quartet playing 80s Madonna....oh wait...I already skate to that :)

There are some classical pieces I love but they either don't suit my skating style, or they are painfully overused in skating so I won't ever skate to them. I also have a few pieces I can't get a cut I like at my current program length, so I'm saving them for when I move up to gold and (maybe eventually) intermediate/novice.

Oh, awesome. :bow::twisted:
I've got this running gag with a dude who introduced me to the masochism tango and the wonderous world of tom lehrer songs, where I keep threatening to burn my initials in his shoulder... Then we did like 1 thing together which was to go to a museum at a national heritage site and they had a whole display of the kind of burning marks farmers use for cattle, imagine that? He's a dancer, he liked it for the Gomez&Morticia factor.

I think once I get money and can work with the coach that I've been talking with (she knows I'm in college and that I have to pay for lessons myself... so I'm on the job hunt, waiting to hear back from the rink on whether or not I'm hired, so please send positive thoughts!!!) anyways. I am hoping to be ready to go compete at the Peach Classic next year and I have the speed to skate to nostalgia, I just need to get over the speed fright! :) So hopefully that works! :D

I have a list. Since I don't compete, I once made a CD of my favs and played it at the rink and skated to all of my favs however I wanted to skate. It was so much fun. Most of my favs are from the 80s. Stuff like:
Come on Eileen (Dexie's Midnight Runners)
Skate Away (Dyer Straights), just about anything by them
Switchin' to Glide (the Kings)
Lawyers in Love (Jackson Brown)
etc.

Dire Straits I presume? Or is there some parody band I'm not aware of?

Oh snap. I just got a stellar interp idea (mainly came to me while goofing off with friends at public session today and I started busting out some dance moves when a particular song came on). Not saying what it is, but you all may be seeing it this year, trying to decide if it really fits in A/D versus LE/C (where I already had a few ideas).

OMG!!!! Too many songs I want to do...

Right now, I'm scoping out Pink's "Glitter In the Air", as well as OneRepublic's "All the Right Moves" (and I already skate to another one of OneRepublic's tune, "Apologize.") Pink is my first choice b/c that song is just BEGGING to be skated to... :P

And those are just the artistic I am proposing doing. I haven't gotten to the technical music stuff, never mind the ones that "if I have the skating skills for, I would do THIS!!!" :P

Dire Straits Skateaway -- looking at the video now... OH, BOY! I see another interp coming now... :halo:

For my Juvenile freeskate test (which was a landmark for me - when I started skating again, that was the original goal) I skated to "An American Symphony" from the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus." I loved that music and actually asked my coach if I could skate to it again for Intermediate, but she was right that I needed new music for Intermediate. It took me a long time to find something, but....I found "Wonderland" my Maksim and mixed in his slower "Lee Loos." It is very fast and we started choreographing last Thursday. It is fast and coach is not letting me get away with forgetting arm movements  as I tend to do

A parody band would be cool though.

I have been wanting to skate to Victory by Bond for years, but didn't until I thought I could do it justice. So, in June I cut the music, coach choreographed it, and I will be debuting the program for my adult pre-bronze freestyle at Peach Classic in just a couple of weeks. I absolutely am having a blast with it, can't wait!

I want to skate to every song I hear....haha just kidding. Some of the ones I would LOVE to skate to sometime in my career would be:

Somewhere in Time theme
August's Rhapsody(sp)-August Rush
Glittering Cloud- Imogen Heap(Im working on that currently)
Eyes of Love- Ice Castles
Track 12- Lady In The Water(Working on that one too)
Cell Block Tango- as a group of course
Kaleidescope of mathamatics- A Beautiful Mind
I See You- Avatar(Let's wait a few yrs, I have a feeling its going to be overused very soon)

Here's an oldie, but so am I.

The original theme from Ice Castles. "Please, don't let this feeling end, it might not come again, and I want to remember....."

It is so poignant, especially when you feel your time is running out (over 50 now, and can't jump so much anymore).

My Discarded Men--Eartha Kitt

Might do for an interp this year. I actually have 4 program ideas, this and one of the others I really want to do (won't say what it is) are borderline to where they could probably go into either category. Decisions, decisions.

Also on the Tom Lehrer bandwagon here. I debuted a spotlight to the Elements Song this spring. Complete with a nerd outfit.

Nice thing about being an adult is getting to pick your own music! So I've always skated to what I wanted to skate to--within the limits, of course, of what could be edited (and still sound reasonable) to the correct time limit and what I think I could skate to. . .

That's Through the Eyes of Love, also listed by Celticprincess. We've got a lot of romantics here, don't we, LOL!

I would love to be able to skate to hip hop, funk or jazz! Stephanie Rosenthal skated an awesome program to Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" in 2006 at U.S. Nationals and I remember wishing I could move like that! Here it is, if you haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eENh7cMpktk

I feel like I should sometime skate to Through the Eyes of Love for a show or something. It was my parent's wedding song. :) I think that would be a major tear jerker for them... their daughter finally graceful mixed with their first dance song ;)
