My regular rink is Streatham, London, UK (http://www.streathamicearena.com). Daytime public sessions cost £6 ($9.70) and for that you can skate from 10.30am to 4.00pm. Skate rental is extra.

At my local rink:
Public skate is $6 with $2 skate rental, and can last from 2 hours to 8 hours depending on the day.
"Cheapskate" is $6 with skate rental and is 1 hour.
Freestyle is either $7 or $9 for 1 hour. I can't remember.

Our club offers 1 hour of ice time during the week and it is $4 for members and $6 for non-members. The club also gets $1 off public sessions and $2 off freestyle sessions.

Home rink:
Freestyle ice (held by rink)--$12 for 1 hr, $22 for 2
Club sessions--$12.50 contracted, $13.50 for punch card, $14 walk-on without punch card
I think public sessions are $4 and it goes from 8am-3pm some days, so you can skate as long as you want for that price.

Cheapest I've seen in my area is $8/hr session for home club members who contract at one of the rinks. Most expensive is $16/hr walk-on at another. And there is just about everything in between.

There is one outdoor rink that has public session and it's free for residents of the City of Cleveland (as in not the suburbs), but no one ever asks or checks on that so it's basically free for everyone. I've only gone there a few times, mainly when I was returning from injury and could only skate for very short periods and couldn't do much other than skate around.

No clue how much skate rental is anywhere, I haven't rented skates since I was 3 yrs old.

For our university rink (Bird Arena (http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~schneidw/skating/bird_arena.html)) in Athens, Ohio...

Public skate: $4.00/2 hours for adults

Freestyle sessions: $7.00/45 minutes

Skate rental: $2.50

They recently went up on the public sessions here: $8, plus $3 for skates, plus tax makes it just under $12. All the sessions are 2 hours now and they've eliminated tuesday nights (grr). If you take lessons there, it's only $6.50 with or without skates.

Freestyle is $6 for half an hour if you have the punch card.

I can imagine it's pretty expensive to run the place when it's over 100 degrees for 30 days in a row.

I'm jealous...publics at our rink are $15 (if they haven't put the price up for Jan 1) and they go for 2 hrs max. Skate rental is extra. Privates (what I think are freestyles in USA) are about the same price, but shorter (maybe 75min).

Canada is different; freeskate ice is primarily club ice. You pay an annual membership fee plus a fee per ice session, used or not. It's usually around $250 base plus $200 to $300 for each weekly session for a Fall/winter season - this varies from area to area, some are MUCH higher than this and some MUCH lower. A session is an hour to an hour and a half at that rate around here; if you're looking at five skates a week, say, you pay the base plus around 5 x the $200 to $300 a session. So, not a pay per skate.

However, we do have what they call "ticket ice" which is pay to skate. Ours is $7/skate, and that covers a couple of hours. Used to be $9 and $11, they cut it back when the echoing from the empty ice got on their nerves ...:)

I skate at the most expensive rink in our area. Open Free Style sessions during the evening (after 3:00 p.m.) and weekends is $16.00/hr to walk on. If you contract (3 months at a time), then it's $12.50/hr. The earlier in the day the cheaper it is. Once a week there is "Ice for Breakfast" from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. It's $5.00 for the whole session. "Pro's Ice" runs from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m depending on the day. It's $10.00/hr or $9.50/hr if you buy the punch card. Public sessions are $4.00 for 1-1.5 hours. They are very infrequent due to demand from hockey. You can't really do any free style skating or moves or dance because they are full of hockey kids.

In Malaysia, it's RM13 per entry on weekdays, RM18 per entry on weekends, RM21 per entry on school holidays. Members get RM2 discount and student practice is RM10 per entry regardless of what day.

Just updating my earlier post - our publics are $17 not $15 (ouch!) I guess Australia is a hot country and it costs a lot to create ice??

Hi

Well, in my home rink in Singapore, it is Singapore $14 to skate for 2 hours (you have to pay $3 extra for hired skates).

However, if you are a student learning in the ice skating school, then it is Singapore $8 for unlimited practice time.

Depending a lot on the rink, near DC, maybe $4 - $8 for 2 hour publics, $7 - $15 for 45 minute freestyles, possibly more for club sessions. Some rinks have discount cards if you buy 10 sessions, some give you enough free public skates with group lessons to make them worth it, even if you ignore the teacher.

But I mostly use a rink where I join for the 10 month season and skate all the public sessions, a few times a day if I wanted to, for $300. They are close, aren't busy, and they have no silly rules, so anywhere else is a waste of money.

I spend more on gas and the other costs of driving a vehicle than on sessions. When I take private lessons, I spend even more on them and getting to them.

Skating is expensive. We would all quit if we had any sense.

UK - outside London (which, IMHO, has rip-off prices)

£2.40 ($4) with discount membership card for a 2 hour patch

Figure skating school session £4 ($6) for 2.5 hours - difficult to find a proper description for these sessions. The rink is basically hockey. A skating school has some 'patch' sessions, but they're for anyone who's learning to skate so it's sort of figure skating public.

Public session £4 - £6 ($6 -$9) or more depending on rink

Dance Session (2 hours) £10 - £12 ($15 - $18)
