Help in understanding ISU's base value (aka SOJ)

I'm new to this forum. My daughter is a juvenile level competitive skater and just recently competed at the Liberty summer competition in Aston, PA. She turned ten years old last month and this was her first experience under the IJS system. I'm reading her score sheet, but am somewhat confused with what the base value represents. For example her double lutz jump was assigned a base value of 0.60. That value is before the GOE marks are applied to it. However when I reference the ISU rule book, a double lutz jump has a base value of 1.90. Confused:cry:

This means her 2lutz was downgraded to the base value of a single for underrotating by more than 1/4 of a turn. This is shown on the protocols (the detailed score sheet) by a "<".

Thanks ibreakhearts66. Unfortunately, my coach was not up to date with the IJS rules and it was quite an eye opener when I saw her marks.

You're welcome. Hey, better to find this out at Liberty and not at regionals! But yeah, the rule is, if the jump is cheated by more than 1/4, the jump gets downgraded to the base value of a single and will get assigned -GOE.

You can read about the IJS and learn how to understand it on the USFS website. All coaches are expected to be educated if they have students competing under the system. After a while, it's not too bad to understand! If you're still there, come visit our booth in the cafe b/w rinks 1+2!
