I posted earlier (http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=27915) two pictures (one at the bottom of the thread) of ducks figure skating. At that point, it was hard to tell whether the ducks were practicing spirals or figures.

As it turns out, those two snapshots were not coincidental!
It has been a closely guarded secret up till today that ducks are, in fact, preparing to send their own figure skating team to the 2018 winter olympics.

Humans were not supposed to know about it until they'd announce it at the last possible moment to throw their competition off-balance and increase their chances of a gold medal. However, our sneaky reporters have not only unmasked this evil conspiracy, they have even managed to take some more pictures. You can clearly see the progress the ducks have made since last month thanks to daily stretching- and training sessions!

I'm starting to fear for the future of the figure skating sport. After all, with wings, it shouldn't be a problem to do a quadruple axel, or even a quintuple one... We humans just might find outselves out-performed by ducks in no time!

It is my only hope that figure skating rinks across the world deny ducks entry to their premises, in order to deny them training opportunities during the summer months. We human figure skaters need to stick together! ;)

The top one looks to me like it's going for a CW lutz. Though it might have been learning from tapes of Caroline Zhang because the free leg looks a bit high and out to the side to me

I hear the ducks leave the freestyle session in a huff whenever they see a human doing a 'shoot the duck' or are asked to do one by their coach. This is seen as culturally insensititive by leaders of the Anatidae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatidae) family ;)

Therefore, to preserve our beloved sport we need to go to USFSA and ISI and insist that 'shoot the duck' be a mandatory move in all levels including the ELITE levels. Change edge shoot the ducks, shoot the ducks into spins, death drop shoot the ducks, back shoot the ducks, and the infamous 'big bore shotgun' shoot the duck. ;) We have to do this quick before the SWANS! take up figure skating. How many Swan Lake exhibitions can one competition stand! Swans don't have to be good, they look good even when they 'butt out'.

Swans are the nuclear bird threat (and they leave a really messy dressing room--and if they get ticked off they can break your leg with one swip of the head!)

"You disapprove? Well, too bad! We're in this war for the species, boys and girls. It's simple numbers. They have more. And every day I have to make decisions that send hundreds of people like you to their deaths. " (Starship Troopers, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120201/quotes) 1997)

(Been waiting to use that quote for years! And yes I'm stuck at home for two weeks w/ too much time on my hands)

If that bird in the first picture is a duck, why is it so pigeon-toed?

Perhaps THAT is the reason this particular duck took up skating? His/her mother was worried about that very problem and the duck doctor recommended skating as therapy to help correct the issue???

It's not working, apparently

But I expect it does a great spread pigeon!

No, Agnes, your solution to the shoot-the-duck problem won't work. The ducks are insisting that the move be henceforth and invariably known by it's English name of "teapot".

It does raise interesting cultural questions about the differences in the names of the move doesn't it?!
