Yo, so I'm such a tard, I was just reading some thread about Sectionals and then logged out and back in and now I can't find it anywhere! In any event - I'm not skating this year but will be there to cheer everyone on and if anyone (Stormy) need me to put them on the ice just holla:] I'll try and dress all official and split...

Hi, mskater! Long time, no see. I won't be competing at Easterns either, but I will be there for at least part of the competition. If anyone from out of town needs a ride around the area or whatever, let me know. I look forward to cheering everyone on!

I'll be at Easterns. Hillsborough, right? that's where i'll be. No coach to put me on the ice, but i'll be doing Adult Silver Freestyle. I'm still putting program together. It would be nice to meet some folks. I'll be the one from Lynchburg!

Will be great to catch up with everyone at the competition. I do wish I was competing but I decided last minute not to. I couldn't find the motivation to skate in my current level which doesn't really challenge me. So I'm making goals to test novice moves and free before the 2010 qualifying season so I'll be ready to go.

Good Luck everyone - I'll be rooting for you! :]

Well Im afraid you will have one less gold man at Easterns this year... I would like to wish each and everyone of you good luck at Easterns and Nationals. Even though my skating has improved a lot in the last year Im not taking lessons at the moment and ice time is beyond my means except for the occasional day to stay fit :?? ( lots of cut backs at work)so 2009 is a bust for me , but with any luck Ill be back in 2010 ;). Any clues as to where Nationals might be 2010... anyone:?:

Good luck everyone.

This is exactly why you shouldn't take coaches to adult events. Either they disapprove or they confiscate all your mini bottles and keep them for themselves.

So perhaps part of coach credentialing for adult events should require that the coach must enter at least one event himself where (s)he can collect her own mini bottles??? ;);)

Well in my case, my coach is coming to also do the IJS critiques. This is also his first all adult event and I've warned him that these all adult competitions are a totally different ballgame than what he sees at most comps.

According to the competition website, the IJS critiques are pre- arranged and being offered for a extra charge.

According to the competition website, the IJS critiques are pre- arranged and being offered for a extra charge.Which has prompted many of us to ask, if they can arrange to have IJS offered during/outside the competition, why can't they use IJS *for* the competition? (I know why, I'm just being snarky.)

We didn't replace ALL of it. We just adjusted the percentages. I think it was about 50/50 after we were done. And, it was AFTER you got off the ice. Not after the warmup. We were trying to be a little considerate.

That is a legitmate question. It is because there are some judges that are tech. controllers and are able to look at the program "through IJS" eyes. However, there are also technical specialists that are part of an IJS panel. Tech. specialists are generally former skaters and coaches. So they are not judges. There are also other costs involved. I know everyone keeps hearing that. But I wanted to offer the IJS scoring at Adults for Autism on April 4. I was having a hard time finding specialists that could come from the area and also judges that are also controllers. Since this is a first time comp., I don't know what to expect. So I, as the chair, am not willing to spend the extra $ it would take to bring in controllers and specialist from other areas. There are also other costs like paper....cases of paper would be required. I know that sounds petty....but adding it to everything else adds up. The other cost is the extra ice time. Bottom line is that there are not enough controllers and specialists to go around.

Cool! That's the neat thing about Interps -- you're not being judged against each other based on skating skills. It's all about the music and the entertainment!

The thing you should be scared about is being on the warm up ice with the Masters Interp skaters. :)

I'd totally be up for dinner as well. I'm ice monitor for one of the practice sessions on Saturday afternoon, then event on Sunday (Terri I'm loving the time for that).

*Cue the men to discuss dance belts again! ;)

The Saturday competition is supposed to end by 7pm, but I'm sure there will be cleanup duty for us lowly volunteers.

Is 7:45pm too late for a dinner meetup for you Sunday AM skaters?

I'm not sure what's open in Hillsborough at that time, but there are a bunch of restaurants in Durham about 20 mins away. Mostly chain restaurants, though.

Chapel Hill is mobbed on Sat nights with students from UNC and Duke, so I'm not sure if there's any good place with parking.

Restaurant suggestions are welcome, Carolina People! (We tend to eat at places that accept ten year olds, lol)

I can bring my van and ditch my kids early, if people need rides to/from the rink or a single hotel.

I've never eaten there, so I don't know if the food and service are good or bad. It's convenient, only about 10 minutes away.

I can't picture exactly where it is, but I'm heading out to the rink, so I'll drive by this afternoon.

I called them and they said their non-smoking section can hold up to 30 people, but we need to make a reservation in advance. The non-smoking section is separate from the smoking area; separated by a full wall, she promises.

They have a private party scheduled for Saturday night, so we really should give them a solid reservation headcount to make sure they have the staff and food on hand.

How many people are interested in dinner at 7:45pm this Saturday night at the Bennett Pointe Grille in Durham, NC?

I stayed and helped clean up a bit, moving tables, washing out coffee pots and such. Then I skated for about an hour and had a blast! lol

I thought everyone skated really well - gotta give you all applause for working so hard to prepare for this competition. The costumes and programs were inspiring - a lot of our lower-level adults were really impressed. Several of them came back to skate at the public session because you all made them want to get on the ice!

It was great to meet everyone - I missed stacy419 though - sorry. I know I saw your event, I just didn't connect the name until it was too late.

I liked that, when people fell, they didn't let it phase them or psych them out. They just got back up and kept going like it didn't happen. Bravo!

Lemme say this.. the next time I get events scheduled thatclose... I'm going to do what the two Silver IV and V Ladies that orginally were supposed to be in A/D Interp did and scratch.
I thought I skated a nice expressive Interp... but the judges apparently had other ideas. I hate to bring up the debate again, but what do judges look for in A/D Interp? I'm sooo lost on that, that Mapquest will not help.

Then I did another stupid thing.... I went to look at my Interp results before my freeskate and had the worst free I've skated in awhile.

So any ideas on how to pick up the pieces there? I really felt demoralized today.

So any ideas on how to pick up the pieces there? I really felt demoralized today.

I went into my freeskate on the top of the world after strong preparation and a great warm up, and landed pretty much at the bottom of the heap. I chalk it up to "it" happens, even though I am disappointed. The next one will be better. Hang on to that thought, rejoice in the things that you did today that were good, and look to what you can improve on in the near future. There's always that next competition.

That's one thing I loved about the ISI comps in NJ during the 1980's - the fees weren't too expensive and there was pretty much one each month during the season. If you struggled at one comp, there was another one next month and it wasn't budget-busting to try again.

I have no idea how those interp events are judged, but I did like both of your routines!

I'm peeved that I missed all of the competition yesterday, though the students I've coached for a high school mock trial competition were runners-up yesterday at the Durham competition. :)You didn't tell us that at dinner! Congratulations!

It was great meeting you too and David as well.

I also ran into jwrnsktr at the rink on Saturday and she made me promise to skate with her Tue or Wed! I'm going to try and finish all my work tomorrow so I can keep the date. *promise*

I came home last night to find my husband settling in on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and some rented DVDs. I feel asleep watching "The Office" with him, so I gave up and went to bed. He hogged the entire king-sized bed this morning after I got up, so I think he had a good weekend as well. (kids went to a sleepover last night)

Skaternum: You "Crazy" gal!!! Congrats for your Silver in Adult Interp L/E!!! (Did you do that program again... or something else?)
Oh, no -- I retired "Crazy" before I had my surgery. No way I'm skating without arms now! Gotta protect the knee in an emergency. Instead I did my "Airplane Blues" number, with my little stewardess outfit and seat belt buckle (and peanuts stashed in the bra!). Hehe.

NoVa and partner did a really good pairs program. The ordinals were just all OVER THE PLACE in that one.

Dennis has one of the nicest programs of all the adult skaters, IMO. It's beautifully choreographed, and he always does a great job of putting it out there.

Loved getting to meet everyone and say hi to old friends. Adult comps are the BEST!

What a great weekend! I skated almost the best I could skate (flying camel, we are NOT friends anymore!) and ended up 7th which I was really happy with. My goal was top half and I got no ordinal lower than 8th and I got 2 5th ordinals. I'm glad I have 2 months to really ramp it up for the open event at ANs. I'm just thrilled to pieces for Julie, though. She deserved to win. As always, it was great to see NoVa and the crew.

Champ Masters Jr/Sr ladies has a new force to be reckoned with!! Devon Dillon is awesome. She landed some strong double axels in the 30 minute warm up, but didn't do it in the program. She didn't need it and everything else was strong and clean. I can very easily see her winning at Nationals.

I had a fantastic time, and was proud of my friends for their awesome performances and proud of myself for skating my best in freestyle and compulsory (and not so bad in interp:P).

It was so cool to see the high-level ladies, men and pairs skate in the flesh instead of on my little 3 inch view screen on Icenetwork - I was blown away by so many of the skaters. This is going to sound corny but it was really inspirational.

And of course it was great to finally meet Terri C. I missed Isk8NYC (maybe next time??) but got to meet Amy Entwistle, who gave 2 of the best performances I saw all weekend in addition to all the hard work she had put into the competition.

Now I'm really tired and ready to sleep for a few hours before heading to the rink at 5:45 (I'm trying to psych myself into this by typing it;). I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did!!

PS - Devon Dillon was indeed amazing - what a pleasure to watch!!

I think we both have this flying camel curse that has affected us at NYI and sectionals, and the only thing that can cure it will be some chili peppers at ANs. I shall not forget them this time.

Agreed. I am looking forward to the awesomeness that is the chili pepper. If I can get it good and consistent, I think we'll change the flying camel to a flying back sit. I did some the other day that weren't bad and with 8 weeks to get it, I'd rather do that than the flying camel. I was told that the flying back sit was a level 2 spin as well.
