Back of the blade

I was looking at different figure blades and noticed that some have rounded backs, but most have square backs. Through (bad?) sharpening the back of the blade can become more rounded. Just wondered if you found turning from backward to forward more difficult on square back blades?

Btw: Does anybody know when Jackson acquired Gam Skates?
