With all the struggles I've had with my home rink this summer, I'm not surprised with this:

http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/Looplink/Profile/Profile.aspx?LL=true&LID=14881707&STID=/broker/harveylindsay (http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/Looplink/Profile/Profile.aspx?LL=true&LID=14881707&STID=/broker/harveylindsay)

We are very concerned that not many rink patrons know about this for one and that the new building owner may not keep it as a skating rink.

Anyone got a spare 7 million laying around out there??

I suck at posting links, sorry.
It's on the Properties for Sale page at HarveyLindsay.com

I found it - WOW! That's a surprise to me - I loved that rink. If we had chosen Virginia when we relocated, that was the rink I wanted to be near.

I'm so sorry. I hope someone puts together a way to keep it open and make it better than ever.

EDIT: What does it mean in the ad where it says "Ice Sports Complex is relocating"? Where are y'all going?

Sounds like this one in Amsterdam, NY (http://www.bizbuysell.com/cgi-bin/addetail?p=0&k=ice rink&i=79&pfrom=&pto=&ss=1&tab=eb&q=416273) is a bargain at $700k! (Oh, it's a roller rink - that's less expensive to operate.)

Jazz - is this the historic rink in SoCal (http://www.bizbuysell.com/cgi-bin/addetail?p=0&k=ice rink&i=79&pfrom=&pto=&ss=1&tab=eb&s=&county=&q=415600)being bought by the non-profit group?
(Could be an old listing)

If we are going anywhere it's news to us. After the Contractgate issue we had this summer, it was said that the owner wanted to buy a rink in Florida.
I bought Mega Millions for tonight- if I win then we all know what I plan to do with some of the money!

Maybe he's going to dismantle it and move it to a new site in Florida.
So the rink is "relocating" but the skaters are simply displaced. Tsk, tsk.

Hope you win the lottery tonight.
I'll ask Madame Sk8ball to put in a good word with the Spirits, lol.
(Although, I would be inclined to put the $$ towards putting this guy out of business instead of helping him relocate.)

Know anything about this, doubletoe?)

The non-profit group is still trying to buy Berkeley Iceland, but the only thing I've heard is that they are still in exclusive contract to buy the rink (http://www.saveberkeleyiceland.org/sbi_contractmedia3-08.pdf) and that they have hired someone to do the restoration (http://www.saveberkeleyiceland.org/sbiPR_PageTurnbull.pdf).

Still raising money though... and I still haven't won the CA Lotto jackpot yet... ;)

I was thinking of Berkeley Iceland - I thought that was in Southern California.

Now I'm really curious about what "historic" ice rink in SoCal is for sale.

There are a lot of rinks for sale on that site. Also a lot of Mom&Pop amusement parks. Great link if anyone wants to open their own business!

In that case, would you mind putting in a good word for me to Madame Sk8Ball about hoping that I win the CA Lotto jackpot tomorrow night then!!! I sure would like to get Berkeley Iceland back into business. :D

Well my club in the UK has a little money, but nowhere near 7 million, that and it's a little far for us to pop down for early morning figures. Why can't they make these things a little less expensive so "normal" people could club together and keep the places running?

Hope you find a buyer. I'll drop an email to a rink manager I know in Texas and see if his company would be interested in running / buying it. At least that might help publicise the sale.

I will send your petitions to the Great Beyond when the moon begins to rise...
Even spirits love a great skate!

I think it's the Pasadena rink (http://www.skatepasadena.com/). It's located right next to the Civic Center and the City Auditorium. Honestly, it's a dump. The rink is undersized, the ceiling and walls look terrible. Back before it was an ice rink, I believe it was a ballroom. So really, it looks like an unkempt, dirty, old ballroom with an ice surface in the middle.

Trust me, we as a club have tried everything, but the environment there is that if you complain too much, you will be told to skate elsewhere. We were successful in getting the original ice contract price down from $15-$22 per hour to $10 per hour this past summer.

If it's Polar Ice that you are referring to, I've been thinking about e-mailing them the link myself and may just do that. Maybe they would be interested in a acquisition.
