Wow, I wonder why so early next year!

US Synchro Championships are March 3-7 and then Worlds (in L.A.!) are March 22-29. Maybe that was a factor?

The earlier the better . . . gives the referee more time to construct the schedule.

That makes a lot of sense. Come to think of it, I've volunteered to help out at Worlds, so I'm glad at least it's not on the same weekend.

When can you change clubs? I haven't renewed my membership yet, and maybe I'll do Easterns since it's in my in-law's home town.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Suspicions about Easterns confirmed! Everyone is so great there, I think it'll be a fabulous competition.

Boy, I hope I don't move away before this happens...how nice to have a 20 minute drive to Easterns! (not moving to Boston so it could happen)

NoVa... did you forget that Hillsbourough is where it all started for you??
Hummm, I'll see what my checkbook says to this and AN!
Last year it was March Madness, now is this February Frolics??

Damn! I was hoping Easterns would be closer to me - that's a good 9 hour drive. :\ Now I don't know if I can go, especially since I really want to stay the whole week at ANs.

Nifty, I get to go to Michigan twice in one year for the third time. Why is it never further south? Yes, yes, I know get your club to bid and then ...everyone will complain about the thin air. Can we ever hold a mids section out of the GL region in general? Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico maybe. Sigh....guess I'd better not break the new hip.

Ah, yes, Hills is where it all started. (But I didn't take lessons till 2002, when I had moved to Northern Virginia.)

I have yet to renew membership in a club, but I doubt pair partner will follow me to PCAS. Really, I'd rather just skip sectionals/Nats and got to Oberstdorf again. I doubt she would follow me there either!

Rats! That weekend is part of my kids' school vacation, and we already have plans. North Carolina is not exactly around the corner for me anyway. Hopefully I'll make it to AN though (my first time!)

Mids works great for me on so many levels!:

1. I can drive (in my NEW car) and not have to fly, and I know the door-to-door route like the back of my hand.

2. I happen to love the Wyandotte arena, especially since they renovated it two years ago.

3. If this event also doubles as the Deborah Burgoyne North American invitational, I only have to drive there once, saving a lot of gas!

On the down side, however:

1. I am working on a new program, so that doesn't give me as much time as I'd like to get the thing really clean.

2. With Mids coming up a lot sooner than I expected, I have to get in at least one or two competitions to try the thing out, and that could incur extra driving/traveling expenses.

Maybe I can do Buckeye open in October....

All in all, I think it's great news! :D

:(

Google maps said it was almost 11 hours, and that'd be a hell of a hike for you. :( Could you fly? Honestly, a round trip ticket might be cheaper than however many tanks of gas it'd be to drive there and back. I just checked Orbitz, and it's double the price for me to fly there than for you to fly there!

I am dissapointed too in the Easterns location. It's not ideal for me, but come hell or high water, I'll be there since I want to do Championship Gold.

Vesperholly - plane tickets these days are running $100 each way from our neck of the woods to Raleigh/Durham - way cheaper than driving that far!

Ah, I was checking flights into Greensboro, that's why it was so expensive. Into Raleigh is much cheaper, and HOORAY for Jet Blue. Vesperholly, JetBlue also goes to Raleigh from where you are!

Very easy commute from Raleigh airport to the Sportsplex! On a good day I can do it in 1/2 hour, sometimes less (I work near the airport).

Just to add....
Several of my rink's coaches have taken skaters to Hillbourough for their annual club competition (Central Carolina Classic). They have been constantly amazed at how well that competition is organized.
As far as me, I had so much fun at Easterns last year that I promised myself that if Easterns was in driving range, I'd go.

Yeah, synchro nationals are a week later than last year (which is partially determined by dates for JWCC and synchro worlds).

Will Wyandotte still hold the usual spring competition? Just trying to figure out some sort of competition schedule.

Oh my -- 9+ hours one way driving, and right in the middle of my husband's big crunch time at work? I'd fly but since my husband will be doing massive overtime I would have to bring my son along, and 2 round trip tickets would not be financially feasible for me along with a hotel. That pretty much adds up to a no for me, unfortunately. :(

I am jealous for the Pacifics! Getting a hotel in Vegas on a weekend is difficult and expensive......You west coasters better get on it fast!

Should be fun

I think I may have a work conflict that will make Easterns(AKA EASTONS) a challenge. I dont know if it will be worth it or not for me to go all that way for a non-qual comp. I really have not thought out next season.

According to a post on CAS, the Burgoyne and Mids will be combined.

Century Leigh recommends that everyone NOT stay on the strip. It's too crowded and jammed with cars, and it will take forever to get to the rink from there.

ETA a post from Century on the CAS Yahoo group:

Hi -
We hold our own annual comp each year and have no leverage about the prices at the hotels. I would suggest you book rather early, as then you can lock in a good rate. Also, whatever hotel you choose to stay at - keep their website and check the rates every now and then, and when necessary, call the reservation line and lock in a lower rate if it shows up.

For example - My parents booked a trip to LV for last Feb. Mom made the res in November, and kept watching the rates. On 2 diff occasions, she saw that the rates on her dates had been lowered, so she called and locked in the lower one.

Fiesta Rancho Hotel Casino is where the rink is located. Hotel is like a Howard Johnsons, not too bling, but sufficient. http://www.fiestarancholasvegas.com/ Mexican restaurant, Steak House, Food Court, Coffee Shop, Buffet Starbucks and Walmart withing walking distance.

Next door is Texas Station http://www.texasstation.com/ Mexican Restaurant, Steak House, Itialian food, coffee shop, buffet, seafood restaurant, food court, movie theatre, also starbucks and walmart within walking distance

And about 3m North of the rink is Santa Fe Station http://www.santafestationlasvegas.com/ foodcourt, steakhouse, bbq, movie theatre, etc

All three of these hotel casinos are part of the Station Properties in LV.

Another one that is close and clean - The Cannery http://www.cannerycasinos.com/ (they have 2 properties, make sure to pick the location on CRAIG ROAD ) This hotel is about 15 min from rink, although very easy to get to rink on side streets (freeway not necessary). It has all the stuff that all the other hotel/casinos have, including Movie Theatre.

These hotels are not on the strip. If you stay at Fiesta Rancho, or Texas Station, you are fine without a car, if you don't mind eating at the casinos. Although you'll need transportation to/from airport but there are plenty of cabs or shuttle services available.

If you stay at Santa Fe Station, you will need a car, it is about 3 miles North of the rink, but on the same street so it is easy to get to.

I will help the club with this stuff for the official writing, but if you or your skate pals want to get started now, then please use this info.

Any other logistic questions, you can email me offline, no prob

see you in Feb!!

I know, and I'm really, REALLY tempted. I will so miss seeing everyone!! But if I guesstimate the cost:

Airfare: $225
Hotel: $200
Entry fee: $125

Already up to $550, and that doesn't count car rental, food, DVD, competition merchandise, etc. Plus I'm 90% sure I'm staying Silver, and last year there were only TWO competitors in my event! I'd rather save my money and vacation time to stay at ANs the whole week. If I move up to Gold, I'll have to go because I'd do qualifying, but I really think I ought to land my axel in competition at least once first! :)

Yes, it would be great to meet you!
(BTW, skaters are only allowed to compete in the qualifying Sectionals competitions through their home club. I think the LV FSC is her secondary club, as it was for many of the U.S. team in Oberstdorf)

Politely butting in ... LV was the club we represented in France, not O'dorf. In O'dorf we represented the USA! :)
