Well, I finally did it! I mean, it only took me three tries, but I finally passed my Intermediate freestyle test today!
I had an awesome skate overall, but on the double-single (double sal-single toe) I didn't check out strong enough and ended up three-turning out of it. So, that of course was a re-skate, which I nailed. Aside from that, my other double sal was clean, my axel was good, and my spins were "fast" as one judge put it. My flying camel, which I had previously struggled with the last few times I took this test, even reached 7 revolutions! LOL, how...I don't know!
I don't mean to brag, but for those of you who know anything about what a hang-up I've had on this level, passing it means the world to me. It means overcoming an ex-coach that tore my self-esteem apart regarding how I'd never get past this level. It also meant overcoming some serious mental hang-ups with this particular test. It involved taking some major changes--new boots, new coaches, a new rink, etc.--to get where I am today. Although scary, it was all worth it in the end!
I cannot even begin to express how happy I am, and how much I appreciate the time and effort my coaches have put into helping me get through this, especially today. We may complain about 'em from time to time, but I think we all know how much we need them.
Anyway, here's my judges' comments, if any of you are interested in seeing them. I needed a 6.4 passing average total to pass, or 3.2 passing average per element.
Judge 1:
Technical- telegraphs jumps; spins fast; positions weak; good flow; re-skate good.
Presentation- watch shoulders; good musicality; nice flow and pacing.
Passed with 6.4 total; 3.2 tech. and 3.2 presentation.
Judge 2:
Technical- work on back sit (slightly high); d/s combo lost control on landing; re-skate good double sal-single toe.
Presentation- nice flow to music; nice change of pace with music; feel for music.
Passed with 6.6.; 3.2 tech. and 3.4 presentation.
Judge 3:
Technical- axel; 2 sal-1toe; flying camel; ft ->; 2 sal; flip/loop; camel-sit-change sit; loop; flip.
Presentation- re-skate OK.
Passed with 6.4; 3.2 tech. and 3.2 presentation.
Now on to Novice! :)
