I am skating this weekend in a low cut halter dress with no illusion fabric on it. I got to thinking and realized that there is a possibility I will be very cold in this dress. It shouldn't affect me, but maybe it will. Then I remembered body tights from dance and wondered if they might be a solution. (It turns out our rink has been pretty warm lately, so it shouldn't end up being an issue... but still this turned out to be a useful foray.)

I hate paying $20+ for tights, so I usually get them from discounters.
(Discount dance has them starting at $14- some with low backs-which wasn't what I was looking for, some convertible that move around to different configurations, some even with clear straps, which might be even better, though honestly I think clear straps are just as distracting as skin colored ones)

But- I found them at Danny's for $7!

Anyhow- I ordered a pair of footed and footless tights.
Here are the links:
Footed: http://dannyswarehouse.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Danny&Product_Code=Footed+body+tights&Category_Code=adult_tights

Footless: http://dannyswarehouse.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Danny&Product_Code=Footless_+unitard++Leo%27s+912&Category_Code=adult_tights

I never skate in footed tights, but I was worried footless dance tights might not be long enough to come over my hooks. My worries were unfounded. I got a size B- in Mondor that fits well, A is way too small. In Leos- B's are more than enough! They are thinner dance tights though, so for skating maybe it's good they aren't stretched to the limits.

Anyhow- for my halter dress, I don't think my coach will let me wear them. The straps show pretty obviously, but since they were so cheap ($10 with shipping) I am thinking about cutting one set of them so that the straps can tie around my neck under the dress. I think the back is stable enough that it will stay up on its own.

But these tights are the PERFECT solution for another dress I have. Between the dress lining (which has never been quite enough) and the tights, I don't think I'll need to wear a bra anymore- which solves the problem of this dress: http://www.mainstreetdancewear.com/demoBottom.asp?is_shoe=0&action=view&type=style&ID=79987+++&image_filename=79987+++&cat=25010000&Submit=Details+%26+Cart Even my lowback bra has to get pinned down. Now the body tights come up and fill in the keyholes, but aren't any higher, and the front is "double lined".

I think they are too thin to wear as a single pair, but they definetly reduce the "ring around the tummy" since I only have to have one pair of tights at my waist now.

I'm thrilled, and even more so that they were so cheap!

Now the next tights I want to see on the ice are these: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.php3?mf=http://www.discountdance.com/dancewear/page_TIALLTIGHTS_p1.html

I cut the waistband off of two pairs of tights that I use for competitions and tests. Solves the ring problem immediately!

Really? They don't fall? Interesting.

Thanks skittl - I just ordered a pair. Even with shipping costs to Australia, they're still cheaper than I can buy them here. I just hope that they don't run too big - they only had size C and E, and I'd normally take a C/D, so I ordered the E...

I'm going to try this with an old pair of tights.

I have the same ones and was distressed to find that they do not have a cotton crotch, just the same tights material. Guess that's what you get for $7. Wonder if I could sew one in.

The thing that I've found to solve the no bra but cold rink problem: http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=8M-212309&page=1&cgname=OSBRPBNTPLG&rfnbr=3427

My current competition dress is lined but still pretty thin and these have been a LIFESAVER! LOVE THEM! I've never worried about the tights ring, though, but a good friend of mine used body tights at AN and I thought they were pretty cool! Hers has clear straps.

Not really. In practice, annoying as hell, but for a 2min program, they've always stayed up fine. You could always get some of that body tape, I think they sell it at Target.

Hmm, didn't even notice- thanks for pointing it out, sewing one in might be a good idea.

That's me!

Mine are made by Danskin. I ordered through my synchro team but you can probably find them online. I like them, you can change the straps to a halter, regular, or cross in the back. The tights thin/flimsy so if you're the type who wears them for practice, too, you go through them pretty quickly compared to modors or other tights. (On the plus side, they aren't as thick as mondors so if you're the type who onlyl wears 2 pr of tights, it doesn't add as much thickness.)

Has anyone ever come across long-sleeve body tights? I love the look of some of the sleeveless dresses, but I don't skate well when I am cold, and I'm looking for some type of nude colored covering for my arms that wouldn't be too noticeable.
