I got this idea from another forum. Everyone, if you're comfortable doing it, post any pictures or videos of you skating that you have, so we can see you in action! I'll start:

For a blast from the past, here's a similar thread from 2004 (http://www.skatingforums.com/showthread.php?t=14465&highlight=pics).

I have some pics of me posted on my flickr page:
Spin event from New Year's Invitational (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12584501@N03/2194446824/in/set-72157602424522850/)

Freestyle event from same (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12584501@N03/2194446816/in/set-72157602424522850/) (Ending pose. I normally am supposed to finish facing the audience, but I was running late in the program and ended facing the judges--same side photographer was on.)

Hee, I forgot how foggy it was at 2006 AN. (I wasn't there but watched it on the internet.) For your FS program, the fog was really neat--it fit the mood of the music. (Probably not so fun to skate in, though.) I also like the music from your FS program ;) Mine uses music from the same soundtrack.

Yes that rink was really foggy and the ice was just horrible, it was like skating on sand, my father, mother and step mother were there and they said between the fog and the seating they really couldn't see anything.

I like Batman and Memiors of a Geisha, good music and really nice to skate too.

Keep up the good work MilkaWendy!!

I haven't any recent videos, and the ones I did post were on the (sadly now demised) sk8erlink site. Must (a) get some new videos and (b) post them on Youtube. Trouble is, I mostly video Husband, and I wouldn't post videos of him without his permission, which he is not about to give....

Oh, all right then - but these are very poor quality, in every sense of the word; You Have Been Warned!

Both date from 2006, I think. First is my interpretive programme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bDOgm2LOeo) and the second is Husband and me doing a Canadian Cha-cha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB8w3sFzq4M). Both recorded by Coach1, but obviously not on the same day, and in neither case are we in costume.

I have uploaded a video from my exhibition skate to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/SkateDelaware

My routine changed a bit (so did my dress-to a red fringed one) when i did my final comp at Bowie, Md.

I haven't had time (really, I've been tooooo lazy) to upload my other videos. Maybe I'll do it when I'm laid up recuperating from surgery (if I get ahead on my homework).

Anyway, it should be amusing! Everyone loved the chair!!!! Almost as much fun as the bike I "rode" when I was Miss Gulch in Wizard of Oz on Ice!!! but that's another story....

ps-oh yeah, my daughter's opera aria is there as well.

How long have you been skating? Did you just start this year?

For your forward crosscuts be sure to have the arm that is closest to the middle of your circle behind you and the other in front of your heart. For example, if you were to be doing RFx, you'd want to have your left arm, shoulder and hand extended behind your body and the right arm, shoulder and hand in front of your heart as you cross your right foot over the left and then push under your right foot with you left foot and then push outward with your right foot. This way you'd get 3 times the speed with the same amount of work you were doing.

When I do my crosscuts as discribed above, It only takes me between 2 or 3 to get around a hockey circle quickly. If I want to go slowly, I just do one.

So to get speed and lean inward on the circle, the rule is: The arm that is closest to the middle of the circle goes behind and the arm that is on the outside of the circle goes in front. It doesn't matter if you're going forward or backwards.

As for your spins and jumps, work with your coach and he'll get them higher and stronger.

I have to resist the urge to coach after watching videos.

What I'm really fascinated by is the rinks that everyone skates at. There was one rink, I think it was Muskoka skater, that could have been my Tuesday night rink. The mall rinks are interesting too. My favourite is Jazzpants rink. One day I'll get there. Actual windows!

Maybe it's just where I skate. Everyone comments on everyone else's skating. Good, bad, and everything in between.

That's true. On the ice rink, I won't comment on anyone's skating unless they come up to me in a friendly way and ask me for advice. The potential for getting misunderstandings and creating insult is always there if you just go up to anybody and give them advice, even if you're truly an expert in the field.

Here is one of my figures for the recent Pacific Coast Adult Sectional Competition - RFO-LB3 - I am really happy with them because I actually did it - 2 months ago I could not do a BI3 to save my life without putting my foot down or coming to a complete stop.

I am still skidding the BI turn a bit (of course you can't see that on the video) and have trouble with controlling the edge after both front and back turns:

I am completely impressed! I struggle with BI 3's unless I can pop it, to keep it smooth and controlled on a figures circle is admirable.

(I also like your serpentine, nice control on the edge change)

hi CanadianAdult, if you have any comments about my video's, please feel free to post them, either as a comment on youtube or on this thread or you can send me a pm.

7am. ugh. Good for you.

Resist the urge to look at your spin tracings! (a HUGE bad habit for me)

Critical thing: I'd have you work edgy lobes on a line for a while, front and back to get deeper edges, it would help entrances into spins, 3 turns and crosscuts. Um, in the US I think they are basic consecutive edges (http://www.usfigureskating.org/content/adultvideos/Moves%20Diagrams/PreBronze%202.pdf)

abbi_1990

lol 7am is the only time i can get on patch (freestyle) ice

i think i will be returning to the ice after my injury tomorrow, and for 2 weeks i am not allowed to jump or spin incase i fall on my coccyx, so i will concentrate on 'edgy lobes' or 'curves' as we call them in the UK, crossovers, 3 turns, mohawks and footwork.

thanks for the advice :)

You've already done the hardest part: you tried it. The lutz looked a lot closer than the axel. I'd focus on that one. I think you need more height if you want to do a double axel. Do you do any off ice training?

Yeah im probably just gonna focus on the lutz for now. The 2axel attempt was really just for fun and to see how close i'd be if i tried it. I agree i definitely need more height. I tried to like use my arms and really jump up in the air but it didn't work ahha. And yep, I do off ice training

Woo Hoo!!! I wasn't sure Bronze would make it to Icenetwork. Makes my sub worthwhile. Can't wait to see you skate. BTW, a "little birdie from LP" woke me up on Sun morning 1 minute before my alarm was due to go off. Not realizing the timing, I ran to the bathroom and was there when said alarm woke DH :frus:. Are you back home now?

Here's me...well...and 15 of my teammates
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xCujsBbnu-g from last December, we placed 1st at that competition (first of our undefeated season), we're also on IceNetwork, adult division at nationals (2nd last team out) and if mids videos are up, we're the last team.

And my lifelong-synchro-gal-turned-singles-skater video is Bronze I at ANs on Icenetwork, I'm the 2nd on out. Not bad for the first time competing by myself in many, many years! (Man, that was a strange feeling.) I knew the basics from when I was a kid and did a few pre-prelim competitions, but had just learned a lutz (at least a properly executed one), layback and camel spin about 4 weeks prior to ANs.

Hey, TD!!! I didn't know you have a double sal... can you still do them? (I'm not gonna ask about having a double sal and not have an axel. I know of a gal who a while back had up to an inconsistent double loop, was working on a double flip and claims she STILL can't do a good axel. Of course, I haven't seen her skate in a while but I know she's still skating...)

Your salchow looks GREAT! and I envy your back spirals...
For the sit spin, get your free leg close to your skating leg. I have to tell myself to "superglue" my knees together so that I close my hips.

Gotta post this pic of my dd...The event photographer snapped her pic the very second she landed her 2sal/loop combo, and although it turned out a bit blurred, I think it is the best picture I have! Yes, she is a CW skater, and no, she isn't a leftie. We have quite a few of them at our rink, and none of them are lefties!

That is my FAVE dress, it gets lots of comments! It only has about *ahem* 10 or so gross of stones on it. I go a bit nuts with the stones!

I have been exploring some of the video editing functions of Photoshop CS3 Extended. Looks to be very promising.

I tried saving it as a 256-color GIF, but the clip became 1 MB in size. There's probably some intermediate ground to be explored here. I'm pleased that I can essentially place a video in a message without going through YouTube.

I would guess that it's an animated GIF. You can get tools to do that for free if you look around on the net.

some pretty laybacks and my double attempts which need way more height if they are ever going to be more than one and a half rotations..

Stormy
05-24-2008, 07:39 AM
I agree with the height, but on both the double loop and double sal, you need to jump first, then rotate. On the loop, you're just throwing yourself into it and trying to get the rotation....wait for a second to get into position before you jump. Jump up, THEN snap in to get the rotation....don't jump and snap at the same time. The sal too...you're not checking the 3 turn before you jump. Plus, you have the same problem I have...don't break forward, before or during the jump. It kills any rotation you have. You're getting there, though! :)

I am defintiely taking a page from your book and taping my skating now, it's definitely going to be helpful.
