I've started receiving announcements via email and snail mail, so I thought it was time for a Summer Program thread.

I'll sticky this thread, just to keep it handy. Please feel free to add other camps and programs.

Isk8NYC: Thanks for starting this thread as I am trying to decide which one to go to this year.

I emailed Hackensack Ice house in NJ...They said their camp will be June 27-29 this year. They will announce on Website in next few months. Strongly considering this one or Aspen.

Isk8NYC - Can you include camps for intermediate and elite skaters as well as adults please? You don't have to wait for me! I started the thread because Penn State sent me a postcard and Lake Placid sent me an email announcement in the same week, so I thought it was time.

I have been adding ANY camp I know of the age or skating level restrictions. I'm not on every mailing list, so please add to this thread as you find out about any other camps or programs.

When I get a chance, I'll add the camps in this thread to our skatingforums calendar as well.

Have any of you heard of or been to the summer of excellence skating camp with Frank Carol? I saw the ad in skating magazine and it looked like a lot of fun but I can't find anymore information about it. Is it something you just sign up for, or do you have to qualify? Any information would be great!!

All I know is that we all avoid the freestyle sessions there in the summertime because they charge $18 per session, even if you aren't doing the camp. 8O

You can contact their skating director to find out more:

It's not quite summer, since it's in Sept. but I thought I'd add this. In Portland, OR, Sept. 12-14, Adult High Ice Dance Training Camp.

http://www.pdxicedance.net/ There is a link to a pdf announcement.

I hope to go, if I can at all afford it. It's going to be easier to get to than Sun Valley.

My skater did this several years ago. She had private lessons with Frank Carroll, Ken Congemi, Christa Fassi, and several others. She was about juvenile level then. You do not have to qualify--you just sign up and tell the skating director what you want in terms of private lessons. She arranges everthing. They had group lessons as well as private lessons on freestyle sessions. They also offered off-ice conditioning, ballet, pilates, and such. We went toward the end of the summer and it wasn't too crowded, but we heard it was very crowded early in the summer. It was fun that, in the middle of the day, during the high sessions, Evan Lysacek, Timothy Goebel, Jenny Kirk, and others would come and train. You could sit and watch.

BITA Adult Skating Camp. Will there be one this year?

I have recently returned to the ice after a 3 year break and am suddenly surprised to find what seems to be an abundance of adult skaters hat just weren't there before. I am guessing that Dancing on Ice has something to do with it!!

We've been around for years! At least 11 years, anyway.... Bracknell Adult Open has been a 2-day affair since at least 1997, and the Mountain Cup celebrates it's 10th anniversary edition this year. The ISU Adult International at Oberstdorf is in its fourth or fifth year - and at the end of the first one, Adult Skating became a recognised ISU discipline. Even the British Adult Championships have been going for four or five years now!

It's certainly not just Dancing on Ice, that hasn't really been going long enough to have produced skaters who are competition-ready yet, although there are a few coming up who will, I hope, be competing very soon now.

I would love to attend the adult camp at Lake Placid but it means a trans atlantic flight and I'm not sure if I can afford the time or money at the moment:cry:

Are there any adult weeks offered in the Maryland/ DC/ VA area?
I've been to the Hackensack camp, but would like to explore other options.

Skate Frederick
Frederick, MD

Adult Only Camp

Ages 17 and above are invited to participate in the exciting camp. No experience necessary.
This camp is available for for all skating abilities from beginner to advanced skater. Rental skates included.

Camp dates and times
June 11 & 12
7:00-8:30 pm

July 9 & 10
7:30-9:00 pm
Call (301) 662-7362 for more information.

http://www.skatefrederick.com/camps/_pdfs/sf_summer_camp_bro08.pdf

Also offer camps on other dates for children.

Personal Note:
I don't know about this one - the rental skates offer means it's mixed levels of skaters.
It's only an hour-and-a-half. To me, that's a lesson not a camp.

It would probably be great for beginners who live nearby, though.

The full details on the Hackensack Adult Camp:

Ice House

June 28-29 (with optional extra session on the 27th)

I remember, the sessions ran from like 8am until 4pm each day? And it's on the weekend.

Applications due 6/7, but I do know they take them late, if they still have space and you call and ask politely

Ice dance and freestyle at all levels
Coaches include: Ina/Zimmerman, Morozov, Rippon, Fraser/Lukanin, and last year also had the Reeds in the dance session, and special appearances by various other skaters and coaches.

A mix of on and off-ice classes.

Hackensack also has summer sessions for non-adults, but you'll need to contact them for details on that.
