salchow doubt

a salchow can too be done with a toe stop , i have that doubt if somebody can clarify me that it would be great.

A sal is an edge jump. I assume you mean toe "pick" if you are asking about ice skating. A toe "stop" is on a roller skate. The toe assisted jump most similar to the sal is the flip jump.

Well yes, if you do it wrong, as my coach has been pointing out lately. If you take off from the toe, like a loop, that's possible to do but not right. I can demonstrate that really well though. :frus:

Are you talking about the skating foot or free foot toe pick?

A flip is sometimes called, very rarely though, a "toe salchow".

Salchow, Axel, and Loop are edge jumps, but at the last moment before your body leave the ice, you are on the toe-pick; otherwise, you'll have to take off completely from the flat of the blade and won't get any height.

Exactly. ALL jumps actually take off from the toe of the takeoff foot because you point the toes of the takeoff foot as you take off, so the last part of the blade to leave the ice must always be the toepick. The difference between an edge jump and a toe jump is that an edge jump (like the salchow) takes off from one foot, without the toe of the other foot going into the ice and acting as a vaulting mechanism. If you are on a back inside takeoff edge but reach back and stick the toe of your free foot into the ice to help vault you into the jump, it becomes a flip instead of a salchow.

Here's the difference, as I see it:

When I was learning (mostly teaching myself), I had a decent salchow, and it was my favorite jump. I was just getting to the flip, and thought I'd landed a couple, to my delight.

Then I looked more closely at the tracings. :P

For a true flip, the pick mark ought to still be behind the slightly curved edge tracing.

I was doing a 'toe salchow', and the pick mark was inside the curved edge tracing. (I showed my coach, and her eyes bugged out--she couldn't figure out what I was doing.)

Basically, I was doing a salchow, just picking before pulling and bringing my knee through.

A 'toe salchow' is basically a flip with bad technique. It isn't anything on its own.
