Hi gang

Just a quick note to let you know a little info about Oberstdorf.. First off the Rink has no intention of closing.. They have a very good bid in for Junior Worlds in 2012 an d plans to host many other events ( Including the Adult events ) prior to that.. I had a chance to speak to the Mayor for about a half hour and he informed me that closing the rink is not an option. :)

As for results.. Well.. A lot of skaters did very well. As for me ,, I could have skated better but did score well on footwork and presentations. I had to skate against the system because there was no one else to skate with in my group..

Very nice trophies this year and the party was FANTASTIC... Weather was Perfect almost every day.. and the crowds where so loud you could have been at Worlds..8O .. its was a great event this year and Im going again next year.. :)

I was first to skate, and I tried very hard to tell myself that it does not matter, but maybe it did... I had a fantastic warmup,

but the competition program felt absolutely disastrous!

The final result saw three of us (3rd, 4th and 5th places) all within 0.6 points!
*sigh* I just wish I had skated better... (or, as someone said, they should have judged the warm-up! LOL!!)

Cheers,
Chow

You had a very nice spiral sequence, and I liked your footwork that immediately followed it. Good job - you gotta hate those wonderful warm-ups and yes, too bad they didn't judge the warm-up. Nice job anyway! ;)

Hey Chow, your upright opposite part of the spin was better in the competition! That last double toe in the video for the warm up was really good too! Just gotta keep trying lol, anyways congrats on the 5th place!

Well, that performance certainly wasn't disasterous by MY standards, but of course your standards are the only ones that count, so I totally understand your frustration (especially considering the tight point spread).
I had the same thing happen in my first competition at U.S. Adult Nationals this year. In my last program run-through before the competition I actually landed both the double sal and the axel cleanly (which never happens) and then had a clean 6-minute warmup just before my skate. So I went onto the ice with total confidence. . . and promptly fell out of my opening change-foot combo spin within the first 2 revolutions, getting zero points for it! I went on to skate a very sloppy program, not even knowing what hit me. I guess it's true what they say about the value of a "bad" warmup. So here's wishing you a lousy warmup next time!
