With the re-development of the Oxpens area of Oxford, there is a threat that the ice rink will be closed.

This would be madness, as not only are there thriving ice-hockey and figure skating communities, Oxford ice rink is the most highly used leisure facillity in the city. Skating keeps people fit, and the ice rink is one place teenagers can go and chill out, instead of hanging round on streets.

Please sign the petition to save our rink at:

Quite literally chill out, given the temperature at your rink! I have signed it.

Our rink, when under threat, got together and formed an Action Group (http://www.sisag.org.uk/) to ensure continuity of skating - maybe yours could do something like it?

Thanks to the persons who have already signed the petition.

If not please visit http://www.saveoxfordicerink.com

The suggestion of an action group is a good idea. I will find out who are the key persons for the groups that use the rink and try to include atleast one member from each group in an action group to campaign for the provision of a rink in Oxford. Once this process is complete I will extend the site to provide information about the action group.

Please tell everyone about the petition. The more signatures the better.

The suggestion of an action group is a good idea.

If you want me to put you in touch with the people who formed the group at Streatham, please send me a PM. Only I may not be on-line much during the next fortnight as I'm on holiday, so it might be awhile before I get back to you on that!

Sniff. The mere idea of Oxford's closing has me weepy. It was a blissful place for me to spend the afternoon while I was attending university in Reading about 15 years ago.
