Now when you're a good skater (http://sports.expertvillage.com/videos/stop-advanced-ice-skating.htm) and you skate fast, one thing you need to learn is how to stop on the ice. One thing to understand is when you stop on the ice, you use the whole side of the blade and one exercise to help you to do it is this. Bend your knees, keep your back straight, arms out and then brush the ice to the side. Brush the ice to the side. You can do it with the other foot also, brush, brush. Now when we stop though, we have to keep the knees together and then twist the ankle into the brush. One, Two, Three, bend the knees, twist the ankle and the same thing with the other foot. One, Two, Three, bend the knees, twist the ankle. We'll be right back.

I moved this, thinking it was a "How do I ..." thread.
Then I realized the links led to a YouTube collection of LTS videos.

Spam or not, it's a cool site, & I've bookmarked it & will send it along to my students. I'm always looking for basic skating skills videos, so I love this!

hehehe....that's kind of funny, because doing stops on ice is not as simple as telling a beginner to 'brush' the ice and twist the ankle, and using the whole of the blade to stop. Some important transitions are involved that the beginner should about. If somebody does what the guy in the video says and simply twist the ankle and try to use their full blade, they'll probably end up in hospital. Also, it's not possible to use the whole side of the blade to stop, because the blade is rockered.....not flat.
