I learned something this week as I lugged my heavy skates up and down subway steps on my way to Wollman. By the time you get to the rink you are already warmed up from going up and down all of those stairs! Now THAT's effective time management.

Now you know MY secret for warming up for Chelsea Piers! (Up and down subway stairs, then 4 long blocks west over from 8th Ave...plus you have to walk fast not b/c you have to make it in time for your lesson, but b/c you'll FREEZE if you don't do so!!! ) LOL!!! :P

Yeah I made that discovery too. I have checked out Wollman during my stay here, maybe I'll give that a try tomorrow instead of Bryant Park. How much does Wollman charge?

Here is the Wollman web site:
http://www.wollmanskatingrink.com/wollman/skatingschool/figuresessions.php

They have freestyle sessions M-F 6am-10, Sat 7am-10 for $20. You can stay through the general sessions which start at 10.

Our synchro team practices there on Wed mornings 6- 7:30 am. We love it there. The view is beautiful!

Isn't it? That's why I go there every year and not the other rinks. I can't skate outside in Florida...so you have to skate over a leaf or a twig sometimes, heh

Have you guys tried Lasker rink? I was just wondering how it is. I work in Harlem, and can't make it all the way to Wollman, but Lasker is much closer...

Oooh, that is soooo pretty, even my hubby was excited to see the picture of Wollman rink! We enjoyed our NY trip so very much we can't wait to go back!

Does anyone know which rink is closest to Klingbeil company? probably none?

Iceland (http://www.icelandli.com/), in New Hyde Park is not too far, if you are driving. Also, Kate Wollman Rink (http://www.prospectpark.org/dest/main.cfm?target=woll) in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, is not too hard to get to, and is also a very beautiful outdoor rink. Let me know if you would like directions to either from Klingbeil's.

Regarding Lasker.....it is a nice rink. It is less expensive, less crowded and a bit more laid back. The ice isn't always great, but it is good enough to get a decent skate in. You should definitely check it out.

Lasker is small. Hours are limited, but if you can make it there for lunchtime, you might have the rink almost to yourself. At $4.50 it's cheap also.

There's also Riverbank State Park at 140 something St. and the Hudson. It's outdoor, but has a roof. There's a bus that goes there. I haven't skated there yet, so I can't comment on the rink itself.

Flushing Meadow is probably the closest to Klingbiel in Jamaica, NY? Don't know if they are open right now -- I assume they are.
