Hmmm

My skates of course.
Those big puffy skate soakers
My pretty hard guards. Pink and blue that glow in the dark
Tissues
My iPod holder. It straps around my wasit and keeps my iPod cozy.
POTC soundtrack
Eight pairs of gloves
Sno-seal
Stuff to spray inside my skates so they don't smell like feet
skate towles
extra laces
lace puller
chap-stick
female things
and whatever else I feel like I need that day.

about 5 pairs of gloves
extra tights
extra jacket
thin socks
leg warmers
cotton balls to put between my toes if they rub
pirate bandaids
ponytail holders
skate towel
some general trash
a copy of figure skating for dummies and a trashy gossip magazine.

I think I'm going to add some tissues before I skate today.

Dianne,
I'm sure we have SOME sort of clearance that allows us to know the contents (maybe a skate pass or something like that)???? It's like looking in the junk drawer in the kitchen LOL We all know you have "stuff" it's just knowing exactly what!

Oh, let's see...

Skates (duh)
Soft guards
Hard guards
Two small towels
Red sponge pads
Lace hook
Bag of hair elastics, barrettes and a brush
Water bottle
Box of tissues
Two pairs of stretchy gloves
Tube of lip balm

I'm pretty minimalist I guess!

Damn, I think the contents of my skate bag are pretty boring.

skates
soakers - thick, turquoise terry towelling
guards - clear
black microfibre towel for blade drying and forehead mopping
bunga gel sleeves
fingerless cyclist gloves
daughter's gloves - in case she tries to tell me she hasn't got any
plastic bag holding bandaids, paper tape, gel patches
plastic bag containing white microfibre towel, white boot covers.
2 x spare tights
tissues.
spare undies, leggings, t-shirt (it gets wet at our rink in warm weather, and a spare set of clothes is essential otherwise it's a long, soggy drive home)

Yep, pretty boring, I'm afraid

Ok, what the heck!

A Jerry's "Seperator Bag on Wheel" with:
skates
soakers
hard guards
towel
spare laces
lace hook
notebook and pen
lock & key (for skate bag)
program music
program notes
tensor bandage
candy wrappers
1 pair cloth gloves
1 pair knitt gloves
2 pair tights
1 pair shorts
1 Polar Fleece jacket
1 Polar Fleece vest
1 pair Polar Fleece stretch pants
1 long-sleeved T-shirt
screwdriver (for blades)
map showing all city arenas
1 warm headband
1 set of earplugs (for LOUD music!)
One 25 cent piece (for telephone call for bail money)
and various unrecognizable bits

Hey, not much! I have only been skating for 9 months!

airyfairy76

Awww - my bag looks really sad and pathetic in comparison. But I have only been skating for two months!

Skates
Skate guards (candy floss pink - I'm such a girlie)
Blade soakers (purple ones)
Gloves (to prevent finger sliceage - something I still worry about)
Manky bits of tissue to wipe my blades (I really need to get a blade cloth :D )
Money
Progress card (for Skate UK - currently at Level 4)
Extra pairs of knee high nylons
Plasters
Ipod (not been brave enough to take it on the ice yet though  )
Mobile phone

And that's about it so far - I am sure my bag will be filled with about ten times more crap in another two months time, if my normal bags are anything to go by!!

Mrs Redboots

In the main compartment, we have:

Skates, clad in personalised soakers and rather old individual bags that no longer match the soakers.
Pair of guards.
Wiping cloth.
Small towel for standing on to change my shoes when the floor is wet, dirty or both.In the secondary compartment, we have:

Spare laces
Spare batteries for my MP3 player
Some very old skate tape
A Skatemate
The stone I used before I got my Skatemate (which is new)
A small screwdriver
A small bottle of hand sanitiser
"Emergency" pop-socks in case I've forgotten to bring any
Gloves
Music, in the seasonAnd, of course, there's the bag I also take, that has my bootcovers du jour, another pair of emergency socks (and I only really use them for competitons when I'm wearing over-boot tights! If I'm skating in leggings, I put the socks on before I leave home.), sunglasses, reading glasses, my MP3 player in the season, a heart rate monitor, and anything else I'm likely to need - water-bottle, banana, cereal bar, etc.

It's like a clown car exploded, don't you think?

My favorite things are the skates (of course), the little sockball filled with silica and lavender, the blue "Zamboni.com" lanyard with a skate hook, and the little Coca-Cola keychain "ICE COLD" that has a thermometer! (It's always cold in the rink!)

Oh jeez. I have a lot of junk. I use a Nike duffel bag, I think the medium sized one? I feel wrong if I use a suitcase on wheels because I don't feel like I'm good enough for that yet. Anyway....
skates with cherry red soakers
clear blue hard guards
extra pants (I'm always afraid to rip a seam)
tights and knee highs, very few pairs of the knee highs actually still match
extra sweater
hairbrush
head band
hair clips
hair ties (I have uncooperative hair, mkay?)
pretty smelling body spray, from when I used to skate before class and didn't have time to take a shower before i got to class
hand lotion
chapstick
eye drops
towel to wipe my blades
granola bars
water bottle
sometimes orange juice if my blood sugar is low that day
lace hook
I used to have about 6 pairs of gloves, but when I went skating today, only one was in my bag.
2 knee braces, both for my right knee. One provides more stability and I wear that one if my knee is especially loose, other days its the smaller one.
wrist brace from when I sprained my wrist and wore it skating cause my doctor said so in case I fell, but I stopped wearing it to classes, so I just threw it in my bag and there it stays
band aids
female stuff
Some leftover Sno-Seal in one of those baggie things from when I bought my skates
Riedell stickers for some reason
a seashell
a bunch of crumbs in the side compartment for some reason
And I used to have a bunga pad that went around the ankle, but for some reason, I couldn't find it today.

Actually, true story. When I get to the rink, I always take my skates out of the bag and put them on the bench. Well, I took out one skate, and I could not find the other one. Normally they're right on top. So I'm going crazy, thinking how did I leave one skate at home? I'm such a moron. Turns out, it was at the very bottom, underneath 2 pairs of pants, a sweater, tights, etc. I think I need to get more organized.

Isk8NYC, it looks like you need to trim those hard guards to the length of your blades (hehe, it's just a pet peeve of mine)! How often do those guards last for you? I used to use that style but they would cut all the way through within just a few weeks... :/

I had a much more durable set with a metal spring and much harder, more solid rubber with my first pair of used skates...but alas, they just don't make them like they used to (not that I'm allowed to wear regular hard guards of any sort at all now). ;)

Isk8NYC
10-23-2006, 02:49 PM
The pink guards are about a 1/2" longer than the blades because I walk heel-to-toe. Gotta protect the assets. I had a metallic purple pair with the metal springs but they broke. These were an impulse "need" purchase -- not the color or type I like, although I like one-piece guards more than two-piece.

They'll last about a year. I don't use them often.

BTW, this was taken AFTER I cleaned out the junk. HAHAHA

Yes I know, I carry a lot of junk around. I'll probably clean it out on Wed. since I'll probably take that bag with me when I go to Erie for a couple days. It's a nice size carry on bag, but it means I'll have to go through all the stuff. I'm afraid of what I might find if I empty it out 8O

Mrs Redboots

I've got to find some kind of soft ball or something - one of those hairy balls will probably work well - as the coach wants us to skate with a ball between our shoulders, to keep them in the right place.

Er - I should perhaps clarify that this is skating together in Kilian hold and Reverse Kilian hold, so between the front of his right shoulder & the back of my left, or the front of his left & the back of my right, as appropriate.

Well I just cleaned out and repacked my skate bag, so here goes:

Skates.
2 bath towels, one to wrap each skate up in.
A hand towel for drying the skates.
5 black knitted thin gloves. 3 with holes in them.
A set of fingerless leather weightlifting-style gloves.
2 big blue and black soakers for when my skates are packed.
2 green soakers for wearing around the rink since I can't wear hard guards as they'll scratch my blades.
2 kevlar "skate mate" thingies that velcro on over the blades and soakers
2 black soakers that are older and have holes, just in case.
A lace puller thingy
A sharpening stone
A can of Lincoln Natural shoe wax.
A wrap-style bandage with a little clip in case I have a calf or elbow injury to protect.
Comb.
Ziplock baggie of spare laces.
A little ziplock canvas thingy that contains:

4GB iPod Nano.
A couple skating punch cards.
USFSA Membership card.
Note pad.
Pen.
2 sets of headphones.
Headphone adapter with microphone for my cell phone.
iPod charger.
Adapters to plug iPod into either size headphone or RCA inputs (still need one for XLR for one rink...).

 Well I've barely got anything in mine - but it's a small bag and I've only been skating a few months...

*Skates (unless I'm REALLY unlucky)
*Blade towel (aka an old flannel)
*Soakers (that my mum made out of an old towel because she wouldn't pay £6 for something she decided she could make)
*Hard Guards
*Money for the cafe
*Orange boot covers

And that's pretty much it.

Look for a Gertie Ball, the one pictured above is a fancy version of the Nobbie Gertie. They're collapseable, you blow them up with a straw when you want to use it and they're rubbery textured. I used them with kids with motor difficulties and I currently use one in Canskate because it doesn't roll that far so it doesn't get away from the group. I think it would "stick" quite nicely between you and The Husband and if it is a bad day, you can throw it as a stress reliever. It's about 10" across, there are 4" versions too.

In the end, we found we had some padded stars that Rob Lichtefeld had thrown for the skaters last Mountain Cup, and they are absolutely perfect for the exercise. Husband's was still in his skate-bag, and I put mine in mine, so that's another bit of junk in the bag!

I haven't skated for a while but the contents of my bag were:

Free skates with soakers
Dance skates with soakers
Hard guards
Spare tights
Philips and straight screwdriver
Screws (saved someone's Silver test by having those in my bag!)
Tapes & CDs
Chamois cloth for drying blades
Gloves (assorted)
Chiffon skirts (assorted)
Lycra short skirt with inbuilt pants
T-shirt
Tissues
Pen
Notebook (coach liked us to write a precis of our lessons!)
Ice Link
Lip balm & face cream
Assorted bits of make up, glitter etc
Bunga pads
Grizzly bars (a sort of fruit bar thingy)
Water
Spare laces

Crikey ... how the heck did I ever carry that lot around? 8O
