This is a pretty comprehensive site:
http://home.pacbell.net/anamga/questions.html (http://home.pacbell.net/anamga/questions.html) (Thanks, FSWer)

Don Korte's site has great reference information that's up-to-date as well as an "Adult Focus" section.
www.sk8stuff.com (http://www.sk8stuff.com)

This LINK has a copy of the online version (http://worldfigureskating.net/index.php)of Maribel Vinson-Owen's "The Fun of Figure Skating" book.
It's a great intro to skating, especially if you're interested in learning the basic Figures.
(Although, I will say the actual book, with the photographs, is much more helpful. I borrowed it from the Library.)

When "Compulsory Figures" were eliminated from competitions, the USFSA removed that section of their Rulebook as well.
It is now available from the USFSA website here: http://www.usfsa.org/Content/Compulsory%20Figures%20Rules.pdf

ORDERING MEMBERS-ONLY ITEMS:
The "Members Only" online link is HERE (https://www.usfsaonline.org/Intralock/Login.asp).
Once you login, you can check test and competition statuses.
You can also order emblems, rulebooks, and music/videos from the USFSA directly, instead of using the snail-mail order form.

If you want to shop for apparel and trinkets, the IceLight website for the USFSA store is HERE (http://www.icelife.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=USA).

ETA:
The USFSA will send you a copy of the "Compulsory Figures" that were removed from the rulebook when figures became optional.
You just have to email them for the document.

Thanks for the sticky, ISk8NYC!

Here's the link to the order form for the 2006-2007 USFS rule book (http://www.usfsa.org/content/rulebook.pdf)

(I don't think this is on the NEICC's page of quick USFS links, and it's always the one thing I have trouble finding each year on the USFS web page, even when I search the page using Google.)

Note: the above link is for the order form for the 2006-2007 rule book. (I don't know if USFS updates the link each membership year or whether the link will be different in future years.)

Edited by Isk8NYC to add:

The USFSA also offers a pdf version of the rule book for viewing on a computer.
The pdf comes on a CD/ROM and isn't too large - I put a copy on my USB drive for convenience.
You can search for key words and/or patterns, then print copies of just the pages you want.

It's a great intro to skating, especially if you're interested in learning the basic Figures.

About.com has an excellent article about figures and patch sessions.
http://figureskating.about.com/od/historyoffigureskating/a/figures.htm

When "Compulsory Figures" were eliminated from competitions, the USFSA removed that section of their Rulebook as well.
It is still available (no charge AFAIK) from the USFSA via email request - it's sent as a PDF document. (Dalean Greenlee (dgreenlee at usfsa dot org) was the person who sent my copy.

ETA: Renatele has a copy online if you wish to download it directly. (See below)

Sorry, I don't remember who it was, but remember the thread where somebody was asking for an old rulebook, and since I have the one from 2003-2004 on CD, I wanted to put it up for you on the internet, but didn't have the server space that time.

Well, if anyone still wants to take a peek at the (old) rulebook, it's here:

The figures part of it is here:

Hi everyone,

This is Lexi Rohner, Chair of the USFS Adult Skating Committee (ASC). It has been brought to my attention that there are concerns over what issues the committee discusses, and how they affect or do not affect the general adult skating population.

I would like to provide some insight on the process of rule changing and the environment in which issues affecting adult skaters are addressed.

* * * *

U.S. Figure Skating
Each year there is a Governing Council (GC) meeting (May) at which proposals for rule changes (RFAs) are put up for a vote. Clubs across the country send their delegates there to place these votes. Sometime issues pass, sometimes they do not.

Any RFA that passes in May takes effect in September of that same year, unless it was declared urgent, which makes it effective immediately after GC.

U.S. Figure Skating has a membership population of about 200,000. Of that number, about 21% are adult skaters. Of that 21%, it has yet to be determined how many are adult skaters who actually compete and test. This is a very small number. So although the adult skating program in the United States is the global leader in adult skating, we are still a very small faction and have a long way to go to achieve what we all may want from our experiences in skating.

ASC
The ASC consists of about 30-40 people in any given year (June – June), who discuss topics that may result in rule changes for adult skaters.

Each year ASC members change, and the Chair position is limited to three years maximum.

The ASC has representatives from all adult disciplines, as well as officials, club presidents and board members, and representatives from other related committees. Everyone participates in and votes on issues all year long.

Member email addresses are publicly listed here (http://www.usfigureskating.org/Story.asp?cat=7&id=25040).

Agenda Items
Any topic affecting adult skaters is welcome in discussion at any time. Committee members are not the only people who request a topic to be discussed.

If you have an item for discussion, please contact me or one of the Vice Chairs and we will put it in the discussion queue.

* * * *

I would like to point out that SkatingForums is a great place to connect with other adult skaters. However, venting on committee issues when you have not actually contacted a committee member or given anyone the opportunity to address your concerns, is not productive.

I encourage everyone to take the time understand how the whole system works, and to contact me anytime with questions. I welcome differences of opinion. Adult skating cannot grow without them.

Good luck to you all. I hope to hear from you!

Thank you so much for posting this! :D

The reason I think the figures section in included is because this is the 2010 test book. The current version does not include these diagrams (unless I too completely overlooked them, but I doubt that).

No, the figures section has not been included in the Rule Book in recent years. You could contact headquarters and they would send you a pdf of it to print out yourself, which is what I did. I'm glad they're including it for everybody in the online version. With the new Moves coming in a year, lots of us are going to be practicing at least the first few figures!

Saving these PDF files

The online files are already all PDF's.

In case they change their minds, I suggest everyone save these files now!

In most browsers (in Microsoft windows), you right click on the file, then click on save as, then specify the directory, and keep the filename.

It's so nice to be able to search through them.

Query, I think you misunderstood Clarice's post. The Figures section hasn't been in the rulebook for a number of years. We found out that, if you wanted a copy, you could send an email to the USFSA and they'd provide a pdf version of that section. Her post is correct - she wasn't talking about the ones posted online.

I'm so glad they included the Figures pdf in the list. Kudos to the USFSA!

So is the online version different from the PDF they sent you? Or is the 2009-2010 version (which is what appears on-line) not yet in use?

Incidentally, While perusing the USFSA site, I found another document, "USFSA Singles/Pairs Judging Manual for Test Judges' Training" (April 2008 version)

http://www.usfigureskating.org/content/00S-PSchool%20Manual2-02.pdf

It is interesting because it provides descriptions of many moves, such as the most common jumps, that are lacking from the rulebook. (Descriptions of common jumps are also present in the USFSA Basic Skills Instructor's Manual, but it is not available to most USFSA members, and it is not clear how its standards apply to non Basic Skills levels.)

It may also be useful to skaters to know how the judges judge them.

There is a similar moves in the field manual from Feb 2002:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/content/MIFSchoolManual.pdf

and a similar dance manual from from Oct 2008:

In the same vane are documents about "grade of execution":

(I'm not sure whether the latter documents apply to USFSA, or to ISU.)

This indicates to me that they've been getting enough requests for them to post it, which makes me think that figures is really making a come-back.

I just hope this doesn't mean they are heading towards switching to print your own for everything in the future.

yeah cause that really gets expensive from home (specially with ink jets) and if you go to Kinkos or Staples they charge way too much IMHO)

I just peek at my coach's books, but every 2-3 years buy my own (usually when I'm on a "yes I'll test" streak ;))
