View Full Version : New (at least to me) skate wear site...

I discovered SeKu Skatewear (http://www.sekuskatewear.com) a few weeks ago during the Adult Skating Weekend here in Sun Valley, Idaho. A woman from LA had the cutest and stylish practice wear, and asked her where she shopped. The low rise pants our my favorite -- flattering (and don't worry, not too low!)

Just thought I post about it since it can be tricky finding nice stuff to wear as adults.

Nice stuff, but good grief 8O, I don't spend $70 on dress pants! I've been finding really nice skating pants at stores like Target and Walmart for under $20. The last ones I got were from Walmart and actually have pockets, which I love. Moret makes pants I like for skating also, and they are available at sporting goods stores like Modells and at Target for about $15 and sometimes less.

I figure I wear them so often, that the price per wear ends up being pretty low.

Another place I love is Athleta (http://www.athleta.com). Their polartec pants are wonderful, cozy, perfect for skating, and have pockets.

If you don't think THAT is bad... I also bought THIS (http://www.oldnavy.com/browse/product.do?cid=6092&pid=399080&vid=1) in XXL. The one good thing about being a petite woman in my case is that I can actually shop in the Old Navy and GAP kiddie section for stuff... and often they have the colors of pants that I need at a lower price. Apparently I can fit in a XXL for Old Navy tops AND bottom!!!

My favorite luxury brands are Danskin and San Francisco City Lights (http://www.sfcitylights.com/index.htm)! Danskin for its durability (and the fact that their XS fits me PERFECT to a T!!!) and City Lights b/c of all the chooses for color!!!

Okay I have one question:
I have major reservations regarding wearing anything for skating with a flared leg for fear that a blade will catch on and I'd kill myself.
Don't fitted ankle pants exist anymore?

I don't find $70 unreasonable at all if they are good quality. I mostly skate in a pair of lululemon pants that I bought for $80...four years ago. They are still in perfect shape, even from falling and getting kicked. Someone actually kicked me in the leg with their blade once and it tore through the two pairs of tights I had on AND my skin--but not a scratch on the pants! I've more than gotten my money's worth out of them!

One big selling point for the lulu pants was the length. I had them hemmed, and they are still plenty long. Anything I buy at Wal-Mart or Old Navy shrinks like crazy, and I have long legs to start with.

They are very hard to find. I finally gave up on them when I couldn't get the Capezios I loved anymore and all of ones I had been using for years sprang leaks to the point that I had to wear black tights all the time.

The Moret pants have only a very slightly flared leg, and if that was still too much for you, you could probably taper it yourself.

Try Lands End Womans Leggings (http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/0,,1_2_1930_59278_147166_125133_5:view=589,00.html ?CM_MERCH=PAGE_172&sid=2569190877819156060) orLands End Girls Leggings (http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/0,,1_2_52358_65401_128440_106887_5:view=-1,00.html?CM_MERCH=PAGE_65400&sid=2569190877819156060). I have 1 pair of the womans (size small) and 3 of the girls (size 16). They fit about the same, the girls are a tiny bit bigger (?) but less than an inch. They last forever. I've had my 3 girls pairs for 5 years. They haven't shrunk, stretched out, faded, etc. They look brand new. I have only gotten one hole ever and I just stitched it up. I wear these all the time to practice in.

EDIT - Fleece Leggings (http://www.blueiceclothing.com/products/pants/powertights.htm) I haven't tried these but I have a pair just like them from ebay that I love! SOOO warm and comfy. I would live in these pants if I could.

I'm making a pair of polarstretch pants for a skater friend, she likes the pants that are tight and pull over the skate and under the heel, like a legwarmer look. I've never done this before so we'll see how they turn out.
I bought oodles of polarstretch when Malden Mills went under the first or second time, and when I wear out a pair I make another, at $9 a pair for fabric (I'm free of course), it makes me feel better about paying $33 for tights.
I need a new dance dress for this year, so please continue to post skating wear sites, I'm lacking in inspiration at the moment!

I love that site!

Their dresses are great for practice or testing and they are not tacky looking like many are.

I have the ruffle dress and the legging-type-zip-pant-thing and I love them. I usually wear either those or under armour leggings which are great and when i need to practice in a dress I wear my seku ruffle dress.

I love those leggings because they are just like traditional leggings in that they dont get in the way and actually protect your boots aswell somewhat. I havn't had any problems with wear or any rips or anything so they are very good. Though, kind of expensive- but who has ever heard of anything cheap in skating lol:roll:

I live in stuff from The North Face it wicks and breathes very nicely. While it can be pricey it lasts forever my pants last about 3 years each at a minumum. I also use althleta for tops, as well as Title 9. The nice stuff about the north face is it's pretty warm, lined in fleece, fits very well, the pants, and the jackets and light weight shirts are pretty indestructible. They are using very pretty jewel tones this year. I've been wearing their stuff for 5 years and it is just great.;)

WOW!!! What an impressive list, Steven!!! But I'm surprised you've left out Six-O Skatewear. (http://www.sixoskatewear.com/)

You have to get it thru a dealer... in my case, my rink is a dealer and can order the dress for me...

Leggings and skinny leg jeans are in another comeback this fall, according to the fashion magazines.Yes, I have noticed! I'm seeing those trends mainly on the GAP websites. And I get that at other fashion websites too! :P

ALRIGHT!!! Time to get out my old black leggings again!!! YEAAAAH!!! :D

I didn't doublecheck it between my lists as I have one in my bookmarks and another in a text file. Six-O is in there, but thought I had it in my bookmarks already. My text list is a bit outdated as about half of the ones were no longer around, been a while since I've gone through it.

I also like the Target leggings - they last forever. Like Jazz I do buy the kids large sizes, and target has seasonal patterns for around $6, which are great fun. I also just replace my skating sweater that was lost somewhere (anywhere) between Baltimore and Dallas, with a kids zipper school uniform sweater. It's white, and will probably be painted.

I like GK Elite (http://www.gkelite.com) for practice dresses. It helps that we have a GK outlet near us! My favorite winter practice dress is a great black long sleeve velvet with pink and blue neon stripes up the sides and under the arms. It's SO flattering and comfy. At my rink the trend is to wear a dress, a tshirt over the dress, pants over the dress (with skirt hanging out) and a jacket on top. Pants only if it's cold which is end of August thru April at my rink! People also practice in leggings and tshirts/jackets (usually the shirts are from a competition we went to).

Don't fitted ankle pants exist anymore?Boot covers! Your trouser legs tuck tidily into them, and no problem.

I am definitely envious of the long list of suppliers that exist in the USA!

I have one more the list (I hope that you don't mind). It's only other skating dress auction outisde of eBay. We have over 450 members and have auctioned off over 250 dresses. This site is affiliated with Wendesign Fashions (www.skatingdress.com)

All dresses on the auction are new and one-of-a-kinds and have opening bids of $24.99 or $34.99. The website is www.calinskate.com :D

I really like the pants at Seku - in fact i just bought the zipper pants - they look like they'll keep my laces in place, and no pant leg to trip over!

btw, does anyone have any first hand experience with how long their stock orders take to deliver? They said each item is made to order and if not in stock could be up to 2-3 weeks but it would be nice if it were sooner.

I usually make my own if I have time...since I have a long torso (and long legs) although I'm only 5'6"...things just don't fit right and i'm not fond of skating with a wedgie 8O . Although a ladie's large will sometimes fit, they are harder to find in colors other than black... (I love pink).

But I'm always on the look-out for new stuff to spend my $$$ on!!!!
