Why is it that some figure skating competitions have the word "Classic" in their name? Is it just tradition, or is there a reason in skating history?

A "Classic" competition is typically an Adult Competion. As in the "Peach Open" is a competition for the kids, and the "Peach Classic" is us 'Vintage' skaters.

Hmmm... Actually, I haven't found that to be true. We have "Classic" competitions out here that are all ages, as in the Cactus Classic (I think it was a Future Champion Series event this year). I think it's just how some clubs name their competitions, and yes it probably follows some tradition, though I haven't the slightest idea what it would be!
