Having trouble with finding a dress that isn't tiny..

Okay, so my problem is that I keep finding really beautiful dresses, but they are always too small or too large. My torso or girth meausurent is about 61, and my chest measurement is 33 or 34. The issue is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of inexpensive dresses that fit those requirements. When the girth is long enough, the chest is way too big. When the chest is the right size, the girth is way too short. Is there any place that any of you know of that I can get a dress that will actually fit the tall person that I am, and is relatively inexpensive?

^This dress is perfect.. but the girth is the most important meausurement, and when that is right, the bust is like.. 4 inches too big. That's no good. :(

Oh and I really like this style of skirts http://www.cyclonetaylorfigskate.com/trendsettersskirts.html (the last set) and I remember seeing a couple similar to these somewhere online, but they were solid colors and had a white trim.. I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find them again.

well i had a problem kind of like this with my prom dress.

Every dress that fit perfect everywhere would always be really tight on my chest. and if it was big enough for my chest the rest of me was swimming in the dress.

I just got the bigger size and took it to the tailors...no problem. They took like 2 days to fix it and it was a perfect fit.

get the bigger size and tailor it.

It's really hard to find dresses that fit -- especially for a tall person!!

You might want to try Imperial Sportswear (http://www.imperialsportswear.com/). I have gotten dresses made from them and they fit well.

Inexpensive? No, I guess not. Anyway, good luck!!!

I have a similar girth measurement & I'm about 6' tall. GK brand fits pretty well, they have long torsos. Bloch also can be good, as well as StarStyled in XL. I have a Mirella dress in L, & the torso is a bit short, so XL (if they make it) would probably be good as well. Otherwise, the tailor option is a good one!

I just had a practice dress made by Sarah Wood (http://sarahwoodsportswear.ca/). Not only does it fit like a glove, it is positively GEOORGEOUS! Sarah does a wonderful job.

I am also reluctant to recommend her for fear she'll get too busy to do my program dress in the fall!

Twizzle http://www.twizzledesign.com used to have double and tripple back skirts, but I don't see them listed on their website anymore, you may want to enquire about them.

For other dresses, get one that fits your chest and ask about adding torso length, not everone does it, but some do and it's worth asking if you see something you like.

GK uses Tricot for some of their outfits and the fit is verg good even if measurments come on the small side due to the stretchability of the fabric.

Something to think of in the alteration route is that if you get something long enough, it's a lot of work to take in the chest, hips, leg opening, and skirt. It's much easier by comparison if you find one that fits around the body to add in some length at the skirt inset line with perhaps some contrasting, or different texture fabric.

I second phoenix's recommendation of GK Elite dresses (in particular, their plain velvet models, if you can find them). It seems as if the last couple of years GK has moved away from the simple, elegant styles they do so well, and that actually fit an adult woman's body thanks to the generous cut and the wonderfully stretchy velvet. Fortunately, I got a few of their long-sleeved and sleeveless dresses when they were available -- I only hope that the fashion wheel turns and they come back in style again before my old ones wear out!

OMG, I can totally relate! I have a 63 girth, 34 chest and have to try everything on (can't just buy off the internet, tried that!). One brand I have found that fit me is GK Elite. The dresses are generally built smaller-chested, but somehow stretch enough for my long frame. PLUS, my recent competition dress by them only cost $90 WITH jewels already glued on so I didn't even have to do anything to make it more sparkly! The dress is very comfortable too & easy to wash.

Another option: I have bought a six-o skatewear dress in the past for competing/testing ice dance & you can get it built with XL girth + M width (considered "semi-custom"). It was around $150, but had a lot of extras (2 layers of different colored chiffon in the skirt + a special chiffon ruffle on the one sleeve, etc.). I still have this dress & wear it, 4 yrs after I bought it & it looks great. Fits like a glove!

I had a custom-practice dress made for me which cost me $150 (a lot for a practice dress), but I still wear this dress, 4 yrs later. It is very flattering, comfortable, and I really love it!

Another (cheaper) option: go check out some dance leotards & buy a tie-on skirt you like. For practice dresses this works great & leotards are often made to be a little skinnier in the upper torso.
