how hard is it to find songs with no lyrics!!

Lordy I have been searching all night on the net for songs without Lyrics that are suitable for a 5 year old... Everything is too old or too baby'ish.. This is ridiculous! :frus:

Has anyone got any ideas?? Looking for something 'cute' :giveup:

Try soundtracks to children's movies that don't necessarily have words.....or instrumentals of children's songs..... I know it isn't easy for any age skater, but a really little child would be very hard!

Movie soundtrack overtures are choppy, but they usually are instrumentals of the original songs.

Karaoke versions also work well. (Preferably without the backup vocals, btw.)

Do you do your own editing and remastering or are you willing to hire someone to do the job for you? I edit and remaster figure skating music. I've serveral already done.

depending on the performance you could use:

pink panther (its conveniently short too and there is an up tempo techno version too if you need more speed)

9pm (Till I come)- ATB ( I have skated to this before and there are several remixes with various tempos, it was very fun to skate to and easy to choreograph b/c it definately has a count to it)

Lola's theme- Shapeshifters (if you get it professionally cut, you can remove the tiny bit of lyrics)

Shrimp Shack- Cap'n Geech + the Shrimp Shack Shooters (From the That thing you do soundtrack- a gilr did a dance number to it at a recent basic skills competition)

Soul Bassa Nova- Quincy Jones (its a classic- and a crowd pleaser)

Bittersweet Symphony- many versions of different tempo ( I have 1 by Oasis and 1 by Scala- without words but much more uptempo)

How about the Peanuts theme song?? My 6-7 year old competed to that a year or so ago. She loved it and it was very upbeat. She was just getting into Charlie Brown and loved that the song came from there.

Thanks all for the suggestions. The problem I have is that there are lots of things I would have chosen but they have all recently been used or are currently being used by other skaters so I can't use them.

Vegasgirl, thanks for the amazon links - I hadn't thought of them but in all honesty they won't be any help for this competition. It's on 17th of June so I wouldn't get them in time I need something by next Friday as this is when her coach will start doing her program!

Nothing like leaving things to the last minute - only that she only passed into Freestyle 1 in Aussie Skate last week, and today she passed Spin 1 & Jump 1 so she can compete in Freestyle level 1 at the comp in a few weeks - we weren't sure if she would be able to pass those in time... 8O

There are some good non vocals on the soundtrack the Greatest Game every played.
Im not sure what elements she will have in her program but a month sounds about right for a tots program.She will probably not have alot of stuff and it shouldnt be hard to learn.My son will be in one June 25 and just got his music cut today.

Hopefully it won't be too hard to learn - she has to have in her program : three jump, tap toe jump (l&r) or bunny hop (l&r), one foot spin, forward pivot or 2 foot spin, spiral, and a spreadeagle or lunge (I'm guessing Lunge as she can do these very well already!)

I used to use Amazon alot until I got my IPOD now I love my ITUNES page !

I also used our public library they have tons of CD's . Some of the best music my daughter used at that age was from the Disney Princess lullabies CD. Also try Jim Brickman.

thanks to all for their suggestions. I managed to post on another forum as well (not skating related) and got some super ideas from there too! So I now have at least 7 songs I can edit and use for future comps for her which is a relief! :giveup:

Anastasia soundtrack, from the movie Anastasia (has some great stuff)

Also-a strange one-but the best piece of music my daughter ever had thus far-waltz-y section from Beautician and the Beast (no one ever knew what the music was from and it suited her to a t-both youthful and elegant at the same time, very age appropriate) and was a 2:23 min program.

another CD-our girl also does ballroom (she's testing her bronze international medal this fall) thats good is one called Strictly Ballroom, (not the movie) it is strict tempo music that has good melody, and mostly songs w/o words from CasaMusica

"Consider Yourself" from Oliver is always a good one for the little ones. Also Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies is another fav for little ones.

Pocahontas is a good soundtrack. Any Disney instrumental is good.
