Last September somebody here (skyblue, I think?) was looking for a pair of black pants that fit tightly over one's boots -- as opposed to jazz pants (sorry, Joanna :) ) -- and somebody else recommended a style offered by Six0. Since I was also interested, I ordered a pair from River's Edge Dancewear and they just arrived (yes, it took about two months to get them).

Haven't skated in them yet but right now I'm prancing around the house wearing them and my skates. They feel like they'll be toasty warm, as they have a fleece-like interior, but are smooth (not shiny) on the outside. The fabric is a lycra/spandex blend so they fit like a dream, yet it feels like there will be enough "give" in them to accomodate a pair of tights as well as my knee and hip pads  And -- their distinguishing feature -- they have a wide bottom which is elasticized so that you can pull them down over the boot heel, eyelets and laces. It feels like they will stay nicely in place when skating, unlike the black dancewear tights I usually skate in that end up rolling up around my boot tops no matter how much I pull them down to begin with.

Drawback? The price, @ around $60 plus $10 shipping 8O , is steep. But they appear to be so well-made that I am hoping I will get LOTS of wear out of them, thus amortizing the cost to a very minimal cost-per-wearing.

For anyone who's interested, they are SixO item #FT05 and you can see a picture of them at www.sixoskatewear.com (sorry, I don't know how to do the link-to-the picture thing).

If I have a bad experience actually skating in these -- as opposed to just clomping around the house in them -- I'll post again.

Cheers,
Ellen

I think I have a pair of these - not from Six-o but they seem to be the same thing. I bought mine off Ebay and they say Malden Mills in them. I LOVE them - so comfy, so warm...I wear mine with two pairs of tights and my legs never get cold (my toes are another story, lol). I can't skate in loose pants because I always get my toe pick stuck in them. I paid $33 for mine (including shipping) and I've seen them listed again on Ebay.

If anyone wants a lighter weight pair of these, try Land's End. They make leggings for kids and adults. I wear a ladies medium in skating dresses and a girls 16 is a perfect fit for the leggings. The best part - $16.50 + shipping! I've had mine for 5 years (only been skating for 1.5 years though) and mine still hold their shape. :) If anyone wants the ebay seller id, let me know.

I wear something similar: http://www.gaynorminden.com/store/tights.html#wool. They are more like sweater tights than like pants, but they are fine-knit instead of being ribbed like the Mondor ones. They have no elastic waistband at the top--just a hem, so they don't dig in. And they're fairly long, so I can pull them down low on my boot and they don't creep up like the thinner dance tights or microfibre skating tights. They're very warm and soft. I wear them over 1 or 2 pairs of other tights.

The only disadvantage that I've found so far is that after a while, they get little fuzzballs on them.

And for the record while we're on the topic of skatewear, I bought a pair of these a year ago and they're what I skate in most:

River's Edge Dancewear has lots of nice men's items, which can be hard to find...
