I just read an article and it sounds like they'll be opening up a temporary outside rink next month in Bryant Park (42st Street btwn 5th and 6th). Since I work in NYC, I'm hoping to check it out myself, but you might want to think about it too.

Hey JP,
I will most likely be in NY visiting family during the holiday season; mayhap we can rendezvous @ the Hack? http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/cool03.gif

Since I work in NYC, I'm hoping to check it out myself, but you might want to think about it too.I might try that rink if it's not too crowded or cold (or has a freestyle session, which I doubt given that it's seasonal... then again, so is Central Park and THEY have a freestyle session!) http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/ok.gif

So not going back to Rockefeller this year!!! http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/eusa_snooty.gif WAAAY too crowded and I'm not in the mood to wait two hours in 17F (not counting the wind chill factor... and I DO get COLD VERY easily too!!!) Also, can't spin or do anything w/everyone in the way...

Hey JP,
I will most likely be in NY visiting family during the holiday season; mayhap we can rendezvous @ the Hack? http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/cool03.gifSure, we can meet! But let me work out my details with FrankR AND his moves coach (who I'm hoping to get a lesson with) first. Well, either Edward (for moves) or JZ (for those pesky edge jumps... loops anybody??? ) or his lovely wife (just to get an autograph for a male friend who's been crushing on her for AGES!!! http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/hearteyes.gif )

Hubby will be coming along with camera in hand. The purple skates are showing up too!!! (Hopefully I won't be injured like last year. Totally ruin the skating part of my trip towards the end.) :frus: I was surprised that I was able to skate when I did skate with dbny last year at New Hyde Park.

Look forward to meeting you and FrankR and watching you two skate!!! http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/ok.gif

If you tell me what session(s) you're going to and where, I'll try to show up, too! Hackensack's only 20 minutes from my office in Hoboken. We usually have a (shhh, don't tell anyone) small outdoor rink for the season in Hoboken. Just rec skaters, and it's cold (right on the Hudson River), but it's picturesque.

Come to Delaware! Hey, it's not that far from NYC, especially when you've already travelled to the East Coast!

I might like to join you at Hackensack too, and I'm still hoping to lure you to Prospect Park one day and show you some of the other joys of Brooklyn, like our wonderful dim sum.

It would be great to catch up again with you guys when you're in the area during the holidays. The Hack?!?! You know. I kind of like that name!
Keep me posted and hopefully we can set up a day for the get-together.

Hey, where's good dim sum in Brooklyn? My out-of-town friends are tired of eating at Wo Hop's in Chinatown. (17 Mott Street, Basement.)

I can never remember the name of the place, but it's on the NW corner of 18th Ave and 63rd St. If you get there much after 10:30, be prepared to wait in a line all the way down the block. It's huge, and they seat small groups together with others at the big round tables - fun!. You need about two hours to sample adequately. They have an amazing number of dishes. My fave is the long hot green peppers sliced in half and stuffed witih shrimp.

ISk8NYC: I definitely would like you to join us at "The Hack!!!" http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/cool03.gif (Hey! What the HACK... eh, heck???)

And did someone say DIM SUM!?!?! :yum: http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/eusa_drool.gif (I'm SO THERE, dbny!!!)

FrankR: Would you please let Edward know that I will be contacting him sometime within the month to plan (God! I hope I can get in a lesson at a sane hour!!! NJ is a long trip for a morning skate...) Oh, and if JZ is available, I would love to take a lesson with him too, but I wouldn't count of getting him to coach me around that time of the year.

kar5162: Please PM me with your coach's contact info again!!! I would love to take another lesson with him again! I had such a wonderful time with him last year that I didn't think about how cold it was OUTSIDE until I went out of the rink.

If anyone has a good coach that teaches during the late morning FS sessions at Central Park, please PM me as well too!!! Gotta give the rent-a-cops another reason to feel REALLY bad for keeping me from going to Central Park's Wollman rink... tee hee...

My fave is the long hot green peppers sliced in half and stuffed witih shrimp.I like the same shrimp stuffing in eggplant or mushrooms!!! http://degiorgi.math.hr/forum/images/smiles/eusa_drool.gif (I'm sure I can find some good pork buns or something beef for hubby, since he HATES seafood... can't 'ya tell I don't go out for dim sum that often. )

Maybe I could ask around the nyc.food groups and see if there's any good pot stickers I can bring to Edward on my trip to "the Hack"!!! (And is "White Manna" that great of a burger joint???)

My favorite non-seafood there are the rice noodles wrapped around beef or pork. They even do them with barbequed pork! Pot stickers are good all over, but are best when right out of the pot, of course! Never heard of White Manna, but then, I no longer eat ground beef.

OPEN INVITATION to all NY area skaters who want to meet us for Dim Sum in Brooklyn. We will have to do this on a Sat or Sun morning. The more the merrier, as we will be able to try more things. We can then all go to whatever rink is most appealing (I'm voting for Prospect Park, of course).

Hey jazzpants,

I'll see Edward on Tuesday and let him know you'll be in touch. JZ is out taping Skating with Celebrities. I don't know when he'll be back and when he is back I'm not sure how long he'll stay. I think he may go right out on tour with Stars on Ice. I usually see Sylvia on Saturdays. If I can get a word in with her I'll mention your plans and pass on any information to you.

It'll be great to finally meet you and hopefully we can all get together. :D

Take care,

Frank

Will send a pm tomorrow jazzpants (I seem to have misplaced my cell phone today). I'm still on the DL, but my dr says I should be able to start back (slowly) soon if I keep putting in gym time so I might be able to skate by the holidays. I'd definitely be up for meeting everyone in Brooklyn for dim sum regardless.

Jazzpants--For your trip out east, here's a restaurant review of a Chinese restaurant w/ a great view of the Statue of Liberty and good dim sum to boot.

(You might want to check the link before too much time passes--the article ran 10/9/05, and for articles older than 14 days, I think this newspaper requires you to register before reading archived articles.)
