Thanks for posting you two, I love reading skating blogs:]

Hey Vesper, major major congrats on passing your Novice Moves; you're my idol  So now that you've aced the test, when are you going to come down to NC for a visit and a few pointers?? :)

yay yay on the Novice MIF test!

You're in the western NY area right? I think we might have skated in the same group at Genesee FSC's competition a few years ago. I heart your MIFs LOL

As much as I'm online, I don't have the discipline to keep one up. I have an "old-fashioned" spiral-bound journal. The cool thing-I keep it with me always so it's ready for autographs!! I had it with me at a workshop so Don Jackson signed it. You can't do that with an on-line journal. I don't expect it would be interesting to anyone else anyway. And my drawings are better on paper than on the computer... But I don't mind reading other people's journals, they are cool and insightful!

Maybe one day when I'm famous my journal will be scanned and put online....ha ha ha.

This is awesome. I am always telling my coach about "the skaters inside my computer" but I did not know there were quite so many!

Hi Sara, yes I'm in Buffalo. I think you are the same Sara! :) Awesome to see you are still skating. How's your skating going?

mskater, isn't Easterns in NC next year? I'm there baby! Perhaps we should meet up with Stormy in Dallas too. 8-)

Hi Sara, yes I'm in Buffalo. I think you are the same Sara! :) Awesome to see you are still skating. How's your skating going?

Which test session were you at where you passed the Novice MIF? Were you at the one this last Sat? I almost signed up for that one for the Gold MIF test, but my daughter had an Irish Dance thing in Buffalo that morning too. In hindsight, I probably could have done it since she was about done by 9:30 am, but ah well. I was flying solo with the kids too so that would have been entertaining. My 5 year old would have been chattering at me all through the test. And I'm trying desperately to not overdo anything on the ice for a bit yet - because:

My skating is going ok. I've been sidelined with "jumper's knee" since late last spring (I did way way WAY too many axels all at once, and a piece of the patellar tendon degenerated - an overuse injury). I finally had surgery done to fix it in March - it'll be 6-12 mo post surgery til we really know if it worked. All last year I did a lot of patch, I started dance and made it through to the pre-silver level, and did some MIF and limited right-leg intensive freestyle. I'm back on ice in a really limited fashion at the moment (like, some patch and maybe 20 minutes of MIF, footwork and a few spins), but am hoping that I can start doing more this fall. I want to move up to Gold if all goes well and fingers crossed that I won't have to sit out another year of competing - I really really want to go to Easterns and Dallas.

I'm about to schedule a buffalo trip for blade sharpening - I'll PM you when I do and maybe the stars will align and we could hit the rink together for a session. :D

I am an adult skater and started my journal in June 1999. To the best of my knowledge it is the original adult ice skating journal.

If you would like your journal linked on my site please send me an email at
kay@skatejournal.com
Include:
the title of your site
URL
brief description (1 line or less)
if you are an adult or younger skater

It takes me a while to get to linking, but I eventually do it.

I don't keep a written journal, but I maintain a web page with photo and video accomplishments that show progression (I hope!) over the years. The most recent are listed at the top of the chart, and the earliest are at the bottom.

Below that chart is another photo/video gallery of friends/coaches/misc.

I don't have the discipline. But, I added Johnny Weir as my myspace friend, though I never do anything with myspace (I am way above the demographic and just want to see my sister's pictures).

By the way, Johnny Weir has some amazing videos on his page, including a throw triple axel he did with Rudy Galindo:

http://www.myspace.com/officialjohnnyweirmyspace

(he said on his official site last year that he doesn't have a myspace, but this seems pretty authentic so maybe now he does)

Wonderful! I'm in the lower echelons of learn-to-skate myself, and I would love to read your experiences.

It looks like you are working on backward edges but haven't done 3-turns? I'm at an ISI rink, and those backward edges are in the highest level before passing into freestyle. I'm impressed!

I have a blog that's supposed to be about weight loss, but has been sort of taken over by skating. ;) That's what happens, I guess!

I update it after every session - which is surprising, as I was hopeless at keeping a diary as a schoolgirl!

I kept an online journal for the first year ( http://www.geocities.com/agedrinkrat/index.htm ), up until Nationals, but when readership fell to like 6 visits per month, I stopped publishing it - not worth the effort - though I do keep it up on my computer. If there was interest, I would upload it.

LOL, I suppose I'm just lucky to not have a totally unpronounceable name! ;)

But guess what... "ciao" probably looks just as unpronounceable to the Chinese as "xiao" looks to you :P

especially since many english speakers don't even know how to pronounce "ciao" (at least they don't know they know how to pronounce it) and write "chow" when they are trying to "speak Italian"

well, yes if your "hsyao" is the same as my interpretation of "hsyao"
but the tone totally depends on which word you're talking about!

Nope, not on the computer. I do keep a personel notebook of sorts that I write down things my coach has said and I want to remember. I find that writing things down helps me remember what I don't want to forget. When I do, I have a place to look. I do have a skating friend that I share my ups and downs with. My skating isn't interesting to anyone but me. =-) Really.
