Weird, Wacky and Wonderful Day On Ice

First the weird: My coach who shows up at the rink 99% of the time
didn't show up and no one new why. It wasn't until this morning before
going to my chiroprator's when I called her did I find out. She was
sick and she still is sick sounding aweful. I hope she gets better
soon. She says she's coming tonight but...

Now the wacky: I hardly ever fall on the ice unless it's because the
coach makes me laugh to hard and I loose all my strength because of
it. But yesterday, we had guest skaters. There was this one guest
skater who might have been 7 or 8 doing lower end double jumps and
stuff who decided to not look where she was going or notice that I was
in a lesson. She skated right into my jump path where I would have
landed properly if she would not have been there. I had just taken off
on a waltz jump when I noticed her about to cross my path, so instead
of killing her, I tried to stop but couldn't stop clean. I ended up
smashing up my left knee good. It did't hurt and still doesn't but it
sure swelled up big time. I stayed on the ice on my banged up knee a
bit and the coaches came running to see if I was Ok but I told them
I'd live and that I was just applying some ice to my knee. LOL It's
already there. Then a minute later I got back up and back to business.

Then the other wacky thing happened: I was heading to the boards and
then turned to go along the boards and then stop when I hit this
extremely bumpy patch of ice (needs to be shaved down big time). My
blade just kept on skipping instead of skidding on the ice so I made
the mistake of grabbing the boards and tore my right shoulder ( the
one that has the rotator cuff injury almost all healed). This was a
rink maintenence issue.

Now the wonderful: I have not been trying camels all that much before
I got my boot/blade problem fixed. But I tried about 6 of them. 3 of
them are just a half short of 2 revs and the other 3 were 1 rev camels.
EAch one had my leg up properly. Back spin is very close to being
there. Just need more practice and more guts. I figured out my loop
issue. I seem to be landing with my foot already on an inside edge
while in the air and my free leg pops out of position because of it.
Same with the flip. Now that I've found the problem, I've started to
fix it.

I'm getting 2 hours of ticket ice today and then another 1 and half of
club ice and hour later after the ticket ice. This will give me a
chance to work on my backspin, camel, loop and flip. I need to conquer
these elements for next Wednesday's test.

So what is weird, wacky and wonderful about your day on the ice? Drop
a line.

Ouch about the injuries, and congrats on the camel!

My day today was quite wonderful: I landed 10-15 loops! First time since I quit at 10, so I haven't done them in over 16 years. I was extremely happy that I (finally) made myself get over my fear of them, and that my body hasn't actually fully forgotten the technique, unlike the flip... LOL. But I guess I'll get back my flip soon now that I'm actually doing loops.

Now the wacky: I hardly ever fall on the ice

According to my coach I am not falling enough. I have been commanded to fall at least twice an hour, and that doesn't include fake pathetic falls infront of the coach when this was said

I'm not taking enough risk on jumps. I'm holding back , being tight and not loosy goosy, and am jumping heavy as a result. I did a lot of falling last year. I'd gotten used to not falling and didn't really notice that I was being cautious instead of pushing past that little scary voice in my head .

Yesterday, I was still a half rev short of the backspin. Fully rotating those loops and flips but not landing on the correct edge. I gained another half rotation on my camel spin. But boy do I have to work on my butt muscles so I can keep my camel going. That's the only reason why I can't keep my camel going. My butt muscles are too weak. LOL I think if I strengthen my butt mucles it will help my loops, flips, backspin and camel.

My left knee didn't bother me much except during the last half hour of the second session I skated for the day. I did ticket ice and then my club ice.

Hi Brigette!

I just realized you're the same person I see posting on compadultsk8s - good to see you here too (and realize who you are, because I've seen you here for some time and just never made the association)!

I read your other post! So funny!

I thought my coach was going to die of excitement when I fell on a jump last week. The fall got more attention than the jump did. Nice jump, GREAT fall. Grrrr.
