Hi all -
Latest update from Spring Hill Suites (Becca and Jen!). We're getting ready to head back to the rink soon, but wanted everyone to know that at 5:30 tonight, after the adult committee meeting, we will be cutting our hair, along with Maggie Harding (our esteemed leader on the adult committee!) and donating it to Locks of Love. Kay Gentges, also an adult skater will be cutting our hair for us, so it's an 'all adult skater thang'.

Locks of Love is a charity organization that makes wigs for kids. They primarily donate wigs to kids who have alopacea (sp?), as well as kids undergoing cancer treatment. You can read more about the organization on their website at http://www.locksoflove.com.

Be there or be square!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a really nice thing to do.

Kudos to you all.

Having known a person on the receiving end you cannot imagine
the difference it makes in their lives after the consequences of chemo
or Alpecia (which this person had). She had beautiful hair until it started coming on by the fist full, including her eyebrows. She received a wig that look so natural that if you didn't know her you would not have a clue.

I've donated my hair before. I actually gave about a foot, my hair was so short afterwards. But I wanted to cut it short, and I figured, I don't need it, why not donate it? And, you get a free hair cut :D

I'm actually in the process of growing it out again, only so I can chop it off again. Good for you for donating.

Please don't donate to Locks of Love or Wigs for Kids - they have way more hair already than they need. You have probably been duped by TV and print media into thinking that they make thousands of wigs for children with cancer. In reality they make only about 5% of the donated hair into wigs - the rest is sold, lays unused in warehouses or is discarded.

Someone is surely getting rich out of this donated hair - if you want to help children with cancer, sending your hair to those organizations will NOT do it.
