View Full Version : So.....what hurts today?

I was thinking about what Alexi Yagudin said in an interview - that if you are a skater and you wake up with nothing hurting, then you are dead. So, what's hurting you today?

Me, it's my left shoulder. It's been hurting off and on since January. I took a nasty footwork fall, and I think it just hasn't been able to recover. Then we can add the left calf, due to the 2sal, and the back side, due to falls on said 2sal.

What about you? Here's your opportunity to gripe about whatever part's hurting you right now. I certainly can't be the only one who wakes up aching on a daily basis! 8O

i have a plate sized bruise on my right thigh/hip area. It's purple and actually looks like i was hit by a car. The area is so swollen my leg is bigger. Thats what you get from repeated falls on the same area.

Still doing physical therapy from a fall to the left hip end of January. Which has in turn screwed up both knees as muscles were trying to compensate. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever simply walk without pain or stiffness again. *sigh* I used to play a lot of tennis in the summer--not looking good for this year!

Making the rounds w/ massage therapist, chiropractor, phys. therapist. what would we do without them???

Let's see... what DOESN'T hurt!!! :P

My right hip/lower back is hurting. The sciatica is acting up again!!! :x :frus:

I get an occasional tightness around the calf area where I injured myself. But for the most part, it's been fine lately

My wrist is hurting, but that's work related. (I work in computers...and have a persistent carpal tunnel problem.) :x :frus:

My shoulders hurt (and it's related to the carpal tunnel.) Sure wish my hubby would give me a shoulder rub... *sigh* :(

And of course, since it's THAT time of the month... :P

My thigh muscles right now! I had a three hour skate today and a hard one at that and I went for a run yesterday so I'm really feeling it in my quads at the moment!

Left hip caused by jamming my leg during double toe, right inner thigh from double sal, right knee from coming down too hard in all jumps. Muscle imbalance in lower back (Ilove my osteopath).

I've met Russian ballet dancers who have the same philosophy as Alexei.

The good news: I work in rehab and can stop in right after I train for first aid, usually ultra sound and ice.

Since I'm going in to get a meniscus tear repaired next Friday, I have to stop taking Advil as of today. Needless to say, everything will hurt tomorrow for lack of medication. 8O

What doesn't hurt is right! I've decided physical therapy is actually physical torture!

Hope the surgery does its job, Gary. Let us know how it goes. How long will you have to be off the ice?

I dread the thought of having to stop ibuprofen ever again. My hips are just now starting to be pain free, and one is still twinging quite a bit.

My knees hurt, but then they usually hurt. Special today, my elbow hurts, since I had a run in with a skate blade and got 5 stitches to close the gash. I'll be fine in a few days.

At the end of April I slammed my left knee in a silly fall. The initial shock was painful, but the bruise and the pain went away after a few days.

Or so I thought.

I'm off the ice until my sports med specialist says I can get back on. X-rays have been taken and nothing is swollen or appears to be broken, but my knee does give me discomfort when I'm walking up and down stairs or bending to get into a car.

LMAO, physical torture!!!!! I remember that. The more you push in physio, the sooner you're better and the sooner you get to quit it. So die now, so you can live later. ROTFLOL Advil is your friend, mother and pain killer.

What hurts me now? Today during skating, I had my right groin muscle throbbing for about 20 minutes. I just ignored it and kept going. Bonions when I take my skates off. Achilles tendon likes to tell me that it's still alive but I make my brain tell it to shut up. It's mind over matter to skate. My right knee has calmed down for now. I think it's because I just played lazy yesterday laying around the house not doing much.

I have an ear-ache, so haven't skated since Wednesday, and am dubious about tomorrow. Apart from that, my back is aching from sleeping most of yesterday, trying to sleep it off....

Wednesday I worked on 2 and 1 foot spins and should have stretched afterward but had many errands to do in remaining evening hours. For 2 nights I kept awakening with just horrible spasms of calves, hamstrings, and hips! So Friday am before work, I did stationary bike and stretched which got me through the day. Right arthritic knee is swollen and painful and calf is sore yet this morning. Will put off skating one more day and stretch more today. Skating on Sunday throws off my whole every other day or so routine but my old legs need more tender care than 5 years ago......

Similar to MissIndigo, I fell on my left knee back in mid-March. I had a difficult time fininshing that session (everything on the L outside edge hurt too much to do) and avoided stairs for two weeks, until after my competetion. Then I started using stairs again. BIG mistake! Here it is May, two MONTHS later, and it still hurts to do stairs. It is lessening, and I think my femoral and patella bruises might finally be healing.

As to what usually hurts, my knees, especially if I go over 90 minutes a session. And my coach worked my different Thursday morning, so my thighs were killing me--they are better today, which is a good thing because I have a lesson later today.

I did exactly the same to my knee the last time I fell. It was the same fall in which I broke a rib and tore some intercostal muscles so it was a bad fall. Anyhow, my knee continued to feel sore for more than a month afterwards. Even when I finally got back onto the ice a month later, my knee still hurt. So it's pefectly normal for knees to hurt for a while afterwards, even if there is no obvious injury.

The knees do indeed take a beating, don't they, and when they are hurt, I mean they are hurrrrrrrt!!! :(

What's strange is that I can walk (even power walk) just fine! Where it gets me is on the ice--especially doing CCW forward and CW backward crossovers. I'm planning to ask my doc if there's any exercises that I can do that might approximate skating so that I can sort of test out the knee before I go back to the rink--I'd hate to waste 25 miles worth of gas only to try to skate and not be able to.

I agree with jazzpants- what doesn't hurt?? Let's see, I think my eyebrows are ok for now.........but I'm having them waxed later, so even that won't last!

lol

As for me, the only thing that's bothering me a bit today is my upper back/shoulders. I havent' skated since Tuesday though, so it might be from sleeping funny, or because I've spent quite a bit of time today on the computer working on an essay. Actually, because of all this sitting, my bum's starting to ache now too! Hmm.

The worst for me was when I knelt down on a hard floor (or even a soft one)! It was a killer and the bruise remained on my knee for several weeks. Good luck with yours. I hope it feels a lot better very soon.

Actually right now nothing is especially bothering me except a not very big bruise on my knee (knocks on wood) But a couple days ago my left knee was still hurting from twisting it during a fall on a jump.

Let me add to my usual achy knees--I fell twice today, both on the toe loop, landing on my left knee, which doesn't hurt too much more than usual, and my left elbow, which IS killing me.

My head from my wine dinner on Saturday

Just kidding. Actually, I'm feeling pretty good right now(knocking on wood as I type this), other than the usual aches in my quads and hamstrings from skating and running. I can't think of a time when my legs don't ache...the price we pay for being an adult skater!

I'm pretty much ache-free today. :) (Apart from a little twinge in my back earlier, but that seems to have gone.) Yesterday I had a very strange pain - my lowest rib on the left side. :?? I didn't fall on it or anything, but it was painful to touch. Very odd. I also have a little bruise on my hip from when I stepped through the door in the boards on Monday, leaving the ice - I walked into the corner of the boards. Ouch. Typical me.

My left thigh/hip area and the whole of my left leg after trying to follow my teenage friend's instructions to try a loop from a mohawk entry. It all seemed to go so much faster and then total collapse 8O Oweeeee!

My other hurt wasn't on the ice this time and is my own silly fault. I probably qualify as the worlds untidiest person and I slipped on a piece of paper left strewn on my bedroom floor and skidded slam into the door frame with my elbow. Due to my skate training I knew what to do - ice it - and I'm sure that helped stop the bruise from being even bigger. But it still hurts.
