I am just starting to learn to skate and bought my own skates (Riedells). I decided I should get a pair of laces to keep in my skate bag. So I don't have to take mine out of the boot to measure does anyone know how long most laces are?

That's not a silly question at all, and it's a great idea to keep an extra pair of laces with you; many of us do that. The length of your laces depends on the size of your skates. I wear a size 6.5 shoe and use 90" laces. RainboSports (http://www.rainbosports.com/shop/site/product.cfm?id=4AC58906-475A-BAC0-5D36F0178B12FAA0) sells them in sizes 72", 81", 90", 100", 108", 112" and 120", and happens to be having a 20% off sale right now.

thanks, my shoes are 8.5. Would I get the next size lace?

One thing you can do is take the laces out of your skates and measure them -- I would guess with an 8 1/2 shoe/skate size you would need laces that are 108".

These laces from Rainbo are also combination Nylon/cotton laces which are okay, but I find that they slip, or feel slippy on my boot.

I am pretty picky about laces and prefer cotton ones, but others prefer the nylon laces.

I like the combo cotton/nylon laces. If you know which you have now, and like them, then you should try to stay with that kind.

You're better to check your current lace size! The laces on my pre-Harlick boots are a lot shorter than on my Harlicks!

I like the thin nylony ones that I have on the Harlicks but they don't half hurt my fingers! I've got callouses on my ring fingers from tightening them up
